Chris,
I don't recall off the top of my head what the frame part number is, but the vertical marks are shim counts. They told the line worker how many shims each body mount required.

Thanks Rob. That makes sense. The ones I have found are next to a body mount location.

NOTE THE NAME ''SHENLOW'' and 11279, the date fir Jan. 12, 1979. There is your owners name in 1979 when the radio went for repair. Might help you if you want to do owner history.

Thanks Jim. My brother bought the car in 1978 and I spoke with the previous owner who bought it in 1976. He purchased from a used car lot that is long gone. The writing does bring up if the name was from a previous repair, did my brother have it repaired in 79 or did he buy a used radio after 79? When I get time I will see what I can find on that name and the two states I know this car was located. Thanks again.

The ''SEACH'' can be as much fun as the ''BUY''. In this case you are having the most fun, restoring your brothers old car.

Always cool to uncover history on the car.

Keep it up Chris!

That name on the radio is cool Two of my buddies owned the same 63 coupe and we lost track of it over the years last we knew of it was in a small town 15 miles south of us. About 3 years ago the first buddy got a call from a guy in California that was restoring the car and when he pulled the radio out there was a receipt from a repair that my bud had done on it. The first buddy gave him the second ones info and he got a call and he gave him the info of another guy that we knew that had it and he let the guy know the last person we knew that owned the car. The last name was who he bought the car from and took it to Tenn. and from there took it to Cal. Because of that repair the guy that has the car found some history, I called the guy and talked to him and gave him some more info I knew so he got some history on the car all because of a little info on a radio, he e mailed me pictures of the car to show the guys that had owned it.

I have a 85 GMC Caballero in my garage, that I am trying to track right now. The search can be fun when we find an owner.

GS, that's a great story on piecing together the various owners! It beats the odds, more often the trail reaches a dead end. Sometimes literally, since the early owners are obviously getting up there in years.

Finally had time to work on the car since body lift. On a side note that black crap on parts of the frame is hard as rocks until it meets mapp gas. Started late yesterday afternoon and worked for another five hours today. Got the front stripped down and started the small things on the rear. The boy loved the impact gun and said this was way more fun than stripping paint or carpet glue. Did the 5/8" rod and 6"x6" plate under the a-arm for spring removal. Need to give a thank you to Factoid for taking some calls to double check my spring removal. If your wondering, when you take the front off before the rear, all four tires will balance the load. I did put a jack stand under the pumpkin for assurance. Yes, I know I put my quick jacks on the wrong side but will correct that soon. Does anyone know what the numbers on the green tag are on my springs? Do you think I can claim my warranty on the shocks? LOL.

Outstanding! Your son would enjoy the old Home Improvement show with Tim “the tool man”. More power!

Thanks guys. Spoke with the painter and he said he was finishing up two other cars and may start full time on mine next week. Told him not to rush as I am moving slow on the frame and debating coilovers. My console should be here this week from repair and rechrome. Also might have a 125lb package at the end of the week or first of next week. Here is a sneak peek.

I'm no painter but a good friend is, and when he did my last car he said "don't rush the primer, let it have lots of time to dry, time is your friend"

In "painter talk", next week could mean anything from next month to 6 months from now, but I'd bet it doesn't mean next week. BTDT! Hope I'm wrong for you.

Looks great Chris! Looks like you've hit bottom with no more disassembly to go!

Now you will be turning the corner and start the rebuilding process.

Good that your son was out there helping too!
