Chris,
Amazing progress in such a short period of time. Looks like you'll be riding before summer is over...just in time for our beautiful fall weather. Congratulations on the progress.

Thanks guys. In his email he said they still need to block the high primer, then final prime and paint. He also mentioned some silly stuff about a payment. I was hoping he would forget. Lol. Well after looking at the sample cards and looking at other perspectives, the red stripe idea is gone so the car will be 2015 Laguna blue with the gloss black stinger and stripe. I really think the wide red stripe would look good on the back but going from the small section to wide on the front may get to busy. Thanks for everyone’s input on the poll thread.

Don, I have no idea on gills but I will default to Larry.

Chris, I will be sending you a pm about that Honda.

Larry, Tom is doing the paint and body. Thanks for the referral.

Leif, unless I win the lotto or the wife gets a richer boyfriend, a painted body on a halfway done chassis is all I’m gonna have for while. I’m betting I’m still at least a year out before driving.

Hey Chris,

Probably a crazy question. Is he going to paint it while assembled, or will he remove the doors, hood, headlights, deck lid & paint them separately?

Pat, I was wondering the same thing and will ask him Monday. I’m also going to ask when he is going to re green the window frame and bird cage parts.

May want to consider having him dull the door jams and hood surround a bit as original. In my opinion it adds to the car regardless of the gloss of the exterior finish. Having high gloss on everything is often too much.

Just a suggestion.

I am guess here, but would expect Tom to remove some parts to make sure paint coverage is fully complete on all surfaces. But would expect him to final paint car as a unit after parts are re-intalled.

Default The Family is going to be so proud!!

I love it when a plan comes together as nice as your Vette. So many things make this build so impactful. Just getting it from the sister in law. Your wife jumping in with both feet. Having the son getting involved. The rapid progress. All your choices. The input from so many forum members. (All positive for the most part.) I am starting to think it will keep rolling along once the body has a coat of paint as you will find a way to get it completed. Great job!

Chris, I have enjoyed reading this thread from the start, this is a great story. Your energy in this build is amazing. We are all looking forward to your updates.

Have you decided on an engine? I missed that part of your story.

My engine plan as of this moment is to go with a gen vi dart block, full roller with aluminum heads and intake, Holley sniper and factory exhaust manifolds. I’m going back and fourth between a modern twist 427 or going 454. This project has changed direction several times but I am staying firm on the big block and the 5 speed.

Check out the engines Blueprint offers. There are a number of us on this forum that are very pleased with their engines. The 5 speed is a great idea with the 3,70 rear gear.

That car is looking great, heck it is impressive in primer. Glad to see such nice work.

Went to the painter today to drop off the hard top and the fiero seats so he could re do the mounting holes. She was already sanding the high primer. If I have the schedule correct, after sanding the leveling primer they will shoot the window frame and birdcage green then spray the final primer.

Don, he covered up the louvers when they shot the gel coat. She will spray a high build on them soon. He said they are really hard to sand down the gel coat and they don’t really need it.

Pat, he sprays the car with everything mounted as he does not like to realign and risk scratching the paint. As far as the headlights, after the paint cures closed he will mask off and spray the insides while rotating the buckets.

How do you sleep at night, with that thing calling to you louder and louder with each step along the way? "Drive me! Drive me!"
