That’s a good question. I don’t know. Some parts seemed to be bare fiberglass while other spots have overspray, paint or primer. I’m finding several little spots that have been repaired or need repair. Figure I might as well clean it all off so the body guy can see what needs what easier and then re seal if necessary.

I got the head light buckets out and stripped them as best as possible. The one had a big bondo spot. I’m wondering if it will be fine or if I should get a new bucket?

I also started stripping the nose but the mosquitoes started being a pain. I know in the beginning of this thread we were wondering if the nose was wrecked because of the different emblem. From what I have uncovered the glass looks like the rest of the good glass and bonding strips. Maybe someone just wanted a different emblem.

A little body filler in the headlight bucket will not hurt anything, it will be fine..

Looks like someone liked the 63-64 front emblem and that's easily fixed also.

You are on fire with this build. I am certainly motivated when I see what you have done in such a short time. Keep it going.

I took off the rest of the week to try and get most of this paint done. I need to get over this hump because it is taking the fun out of it at the moment. I’m not sure when the painter will call me but I have to be ready.

You are definitely moving Chris! Looks good.

I would keep the headlights, and just make the necessary repairs.

Also, good news on the front end that looks to be original fiberglass.

Got a lot done last week. Went to finish the front yesterday only to run out of stripper. No problem, I’ll just open the new can right? Started to pour and it was almost water. Looked at the can and it was aircraft stripper just that it was for metal. So I will be returning that Monday. The boy and I just finished removing the rest of the red primer a few minutes ago. I still have the deck lid, hard top, door jams and interior. Might not get it all done before the painter gets it. He said it might be three weeks. At least I got enough off that it had to save me some money. Now my wife is changing her mind on color and wants a darker blue. Then she said she didn’t want a white stinger but silver. I said no silver stingers because I don’t want people saying this is a Dallas Cowboy car. Now if Jerry Jones wants to pay for the paint and body I will accept a silver stinger. The wife further went on to say that if we don’t decide soon she will have it painted Barbie pink. My only reply was to ask what divorce attorney she planned on using.

Almost forgot. The parts locator guru, aka slalomfiend, found me some fiero seats with tracks for the high price of $75. I just have to go to Missouri to pick them up. Luckily my sister in law lived 11 miles away and got them for me. She put the blanket down for the cats.

Elwood,
You're killing it. Don't know how you're doing all that paint stripping in this 95 degree plus heat we've been having. I'd be a dead man in about the first 30 minutes. Great job!!

I think cool thoughts and drink lots of water. Lol. It’s a little tough to get started but I do a section down to primer and then come in for about an hour.

Wow, just read this whole adventure. Really well done, Elwood! Did the painter give you a timeline? If so, you typically multiply by 2X. Keep up the great work!

He hasn’t seen the car yet but I think we are looking at several months at the minimum. He said it would be quicker than other ones since it’s going to be a driver and not an NCRS car. We don’t have to worry about looking for all the correct stuff. I will be taking it east to Longview where my brother actually bought the car in 78. Tom Ames is going to the paint and body work.

Forgot to add, is your car Lexus Indigo Ink? My wife looked at your car and that is one of her main choices now.

Elwood, I don't know if you sorted your lost key out yet but I thought I'd let you know what I do. Over the years of GM cars in the family we built up a LARGE quantity of extra keys, and since there are only so many combos possible it's fairly easy to find one that fits. I've yet to get stumped, and have found many keys that work in those cases. If you don't have a large quantity like I've got, go to an old GM dealership and ask it they have a horde of keys you can try. Most do. cheaper than a locksmith.

BTW.....very interesting thread.

Thanks Kerr. I will give it a shot. And to keep it interesting, while scrubbing down the engine compartment I heard something hit the ground. Look down and there is a fishing treble hook. So now I have one unknown bone/tooth thing and a treble hook. Just wished the tank sheet would fall out somewhere but I’m running out of places. Lol.

Now slow down turbo. Two Vettes would be nice but no pink ones.
