I think with your tailgate off it will do the job. I brought the frame back from PA in a 12’ enclosed trailer and shut the door.

Glad that is out of the way.

Default Paint Questions I asked in the Paint Subsection.

64 Originally Daytona Blue with one respray. It was painted sometime before 1974 as this was done before the second owner. I am pretty sure it is not a lacquer paint and I don’t think that is pertinent to my real question.

I think I am looking at some bare fiberglass, red primer and maybe a high build primer?

Paint stripper did a pretty good job after roughing up the surface top coat. Is the material on top of the primer original?

I don’t see any signs of the dark blue. It is hard to imagine it was all sanded off before the respray.

All the bonding strips are visible so that is a good sign.

Default Still am still learning how to use paint stripper on fiberglass.

It is a slow process but it is getting faster and I am developing a rhythm.

That looks good. It is definitely not a fast process unless you have Pat and his minions. Keep up the good work.

Default Added additional support to #4 body mount.

A little more tweaking as I have never felt it is where it should really support the *** end of the car.

I ended up cheating, and taking it to the stripper. They used plastic media and it worked out real good. But still a ton of work getting it ready for paint.

First Grandkid to help on this project. My 3 sons can get in line on my side.

First real signs of the Daytona Blue.

Door gaps are looking pretty good. I hope I don’t lose it when we replace the drivers door. I can easily tighten the gaps with the floor jacks on the rear mounts.
How many people paint the shell with the doors installed?

Default Degreased under rear shell.

I removed all the grease and have started to do another round of paint thinner and wire wheel. Does anyone remove the factory undercoating. I don’t see how you can clean it with it being so porous.

Looking good. The carpet glue was not fun but I probably did more than I needed. 3M adhesive remover and razor blades were my friend. Turns out the paint stripper worked better but don’t know if it is recommended.

That's about where I am on mine, and that's the same decision I made on mine! I'll sand down the rough parts and remove what's loose, but that young guy in Texas has way more energy and determination than this old coot!

That body looks good. I got to thinking about it and I don’t know if it was the cold or if kleen strip changed their product. The first two gallons I had were fairly clear and stripped the paint fast. That last gallon I bought was cloudy and took a lot longer on the hardtop.

Default New Can Opened Clear Liquid

The Kleen Strip has a yellow tint. It definitely works better in 70 degrees than when I was stripping in 40 degrees.

Default One fender down and one to go.

Shooting to be doing door jams on Saturday.

This fender had some work on the front leading edge.

i am going back to the Daytona Blue. Your 64 is very close to the color of our car as it is now. I think my brother would like to keep it that lighter blue like yours.

hcallaway is Daytona Blue a '64 color? Just curious on that. Daytona Blue will be a great color! Both colors will show off your car's lines beautifully!
