Wow...that is a classic pic!! That was one of our first trips as a group to the Forum Cruise In!! There's a whole lot of memories that go along with that pic!!

I sure miss me some Roscoe's BBQ!!! If you recall..it was always free Jack Daniels when you visited "Texas". Of course we nearly went broke when we brought the gas powered Margarita machine! And who can forget the "Chair of Shame"??

Too bad the Forum doesn't do Cruise In's anymore!! They were a BLAST!!!

The Forum Cruise-In's were great. At one point we were bringing 20+ cars from the Houston area. We would leave on Tuesday...stop in Memphis that night. We had a hotel that provided guard services for our cars. We'd call cabs to go down on Bealle St. for some BBQ and Blue's Music. Get to Bowling Green on Wednesday and have a nice calm evening because on Thursday we would usually rent the dragstrip with some other folks and have our own play day. Some years it was part of the event.

Then Thursday night would be a better parking lot party. We always stayed at the Hampton and set up an area with TX flags etc. In fact one of our guys is an electrical engineer and we tapped into the light pole to get power! I bet the extension cord is still stuffed inside that pole! We usually had "movie night" outside by projecting a movie on a sheet under the canopy. Cool car movies! Our EE was also a great cook and we did Gumbo and Jambalaya for everyone that wanted it. The other item was free Jack Daniels for any visitors. Our rule was if your car didn't make it and you had to ride with someone...you footed the alcohol bill!

You can see the "Chair of Shame" above. If your car didn't make it...you had to provide a part for the chair. You can also see our "lucky" Gris-Gris feather that we appropriated from some poor dude's Voodoo shrine outside his hotel room door in Memphis. Not sure what he did..but hopefully we broke the spell for him! The Feather has been seen in numerous magazine article pics in the background and I still have it.

Roscoe was there making great BBQ each year. There's a lot of great memories there.

There was usually a Corvette Plant Tour on Thur/Friday and of course the Museum. They had a chassis dyno in the parking lot a few times and a few vendors. There was also a great couple of different cruises through the hillsides and cave tours. We did those too.

Sat morning there was a low speed AutoX event that was fun too.

Then we'd all start heading home on Sunday after one last Sat night get together.

There was a lot going on and something for everyone...wives included. Made a lot of great friends there.

Wish they still had them!!

JIM
