Barrett Jackson
In the past two weeks, I have received two phone calls from Barrett Jackson. They want to know if I was interested in putting my 63 SWC Survivor in the Mohegan Sun Auction. I told them I really wasn't interested. I explained I would never enter a car with NO Reserve. I explained if I didn't get what I was looking to get, I'd be screwed. Told him your a winner no matter what. You get a percentage from both ends. Plus what it cost me to enter the car, Getting the car there, Hotel, Food etc. etc. So needless to say I won't be entering my Car.

But B/J does allow limited entries with reserves, right?

This car was parked next to mine in palm beach two years ago.

Sold for $125K hammer, so they ended up with $115 before travel costs and listing fee. It was pretty nice, restored (but not completely), so not perfect.
Its a crap shoot no matter what, but BJ does attract the deep pockets.
I was told the minimum reserve was $150K at Palm Beach '16. Maybe it has changed. They certainly discourage reserve prices.

A few years ago I talked to guy who went with a friend and he said some guys were actually buying their own car back so the didn't get screwed on the sold price. Not sure whether it was true or not . But I wouldn't sell mine without a reserve.

I have a question that's a little off topic but Barrett Jackson related. For years now we've watched the 1966 Shelby GT350 Hertz "rent a racer" cross the block, and for years we are told that when they were rented back in the day there are "stories" of then being taken to the track and roll bars being quickly installed and then uninstalled when returned - Steve Mags made a comment one time that "he heard" that if you pulled up the carpet you could see the remnants of the quick shoddy work. Does anyone here "personally" know anyone that actually did this? a friend, relative or anyone? or is it just an urban legend?

Beautiful car, Prestige. A quality car like that will always bring top dollar WITHOUT the commission. I think marginal cars do best at venues like that. A few too many trips to the "bidder bar" loosens the wallet, if you know what I mean.
Hummis:
I have a history in the Shelby camp, going back a number of years. That story, whether true or not, has been around for a long time. You see it in a lot of very old publications, and the story, whether urban legend or not, has sort of taken on a momentum of its own.
Those cars with 4-speeds bring top dollar. One of the biggest mistakes of my life was passing on a GT 350 R Code a number of years ago. It was a package deal with a full competition Cobra raced by Bob Johnson who was, also, a great Corvette driver in his day.
I elected to take the Cobra and not the R Code. Big, big mistake.

I had a friend that took his Nomad to BJ in AZ and when the bidding stalled way below what he thought it was worth he bought it back. Paid the comission on both ends and hotel, and food, and entry fee, and and transportation and on and on and he said it was the most expensive depressing weekend ever

Who knows what the truth is ? I know of no actual proof for either story...

If on that day 2 drunk guys decided to get into a d measuring contest on his car he would have made a ton, and he wouldn’t have complained about it.
I knew the guy that sold the F88 Olds at Barrett. He was expecting $600k max, if I remember right. What was the sale? $3 Mil?
I don’t know that I would have the nerve to sell no reserve either, but when you roll the dice, what happens is what happens.

Wow, what blatant, unabashed greed on Barrett Jackson's part. Are they really not already making enough $$$ that they need to call owners and invite them to sell their cars ? I would not appreciate getting that call.
I'm surprised but I suppose I shouldn't be.

Ken , If I remember right wasn't his house built into the side of a mountain? I will say I ran into him at SEMA a few yrs back. Seemed like a really nice guy. Sat and ate with all us poor folk instead of the upstairs lounge.

The auction house doesn’t care one bit about your car, it is just another number that has to go across the block in a minimum amount of time, unless a bidding war breaks out.
An unrestored award winning SW fuelie should create a lot of interest, what I call a draw car. They should be paying you to have it in their auction.
