C-1 (62) Difficulty finding reverse
My 62 project has the BW T-10 trans and up shifts through the gears smoothly. However downshifting to 1st and finding reverse can be a challenge. Is it normal to have to be completely stopped to down shift to first? Also reverse is difficult to find, you generally have to try more than once and have to pull hard to the left and then up to find the gear. There is no grinding of gears during the engagement. The trans has been flushed and refilled and no foreign material, moisture, or abnormal amount of wear products were found during the process. I have not tried adjusting the linkage by the ST yet. Thought that would be my first item to check. Anyone have any other suggestions or experience with these issues? Maybe there not even issues - maybe I’m just used to newer transmissions and how they work. Any help would be appreciated.

I am guessing not a stock shifter with tee handle lockout for reverse?

To find reverse more easily, stop the car, push in the clutch then put the car in first FIRST, move to neutral, let the clutch out, push it back in and then go into reverse disengaging the handle lockout if you have one...Sounds like a lot but it'll become second nature in no time with some practice.
The straight cut gears for reverse take more finesse than the helical gears for the forward speeds. That's also why you get that 'whine' when moving quickly in reverse.
3 speed transmission had an unsynchronized first and required double-clutching to go into a first downshift. 4 speeds are fully synchronized but you still should be letting the car's gears "slow down" a bit before downshifting into first and not be moving too fast.
Downshift speeds are in the Owner's Manual. I think I got all of this right.

I find that it is more difficult to find reverse in my Muncie transmission than the other gears, likely for the reasons mentioned by Frankie. But it can get worse if the clutch is not fully disengaged. Begin by making sure the clutch pedal is fully depressed. Then note how far you have to raise it before the clutch engages. If the pedal barely moves at all before the clutch engages, you may need to adjust it.
