Any benefit to a 6" wheel vs stock width on a '57 with a 670R15 tire?
I'm about to order a set of 670 R 15 Bias Look Radials for my 57. I have a set of stock wheels and a set of 15x6" rims.
Would there be a benefit to the 6" rim vs the stock in terms of braking or handling? The car will be mainly driven, with occasional 1/4 mile use with a drag radial on back. Won't be doing any road course or autocross events.
Thanks in advance.

Wes
from the Coker website:
Brand: Firestone
SKU: 568800
GTIN UPC: 00842199102956
Product Size: 670-15
Rim Diameter: 15
Tread Width: 4.50
Section Width (Actual): 7.01
Overall Diameter: 28.58
Max Load Capacity: 1450@32PSI
Recommended Rim Width: 4.50 - 5.00
Tube Type or Tubeless: Tubeless
if your tires mirror these cross-sectional and tread width specs, I see no value in a wider rim than the stock rims

Thanks for the feedback Bill. The site I was looking at called for a 4.5-6.00" rim. I figured the benefit would be minimum, with a slightly shorter sidewall, but the wheels would be heavier. BTW, hope to get started on the MY6 swap this weekend.

the biggest potential problem with wheels is a combination of offset and tire sidewall cross sectional width that will cause the outside of the tire bulge to hit the wheel well lip. I have a 4.5" backspacing that gives me a finger's clearance between the leaf spring and the inner side of the tire. so, your 6" should be fine, dependent on backspacing...
good luck with the MY6, it should be a slam dunk. looking forward to hearing how it goes, let me know if I can help

I have bone stock GM steel wheels (from Mid-70s cars) on the 56 with 225/75R15 tires on 15x6 front wheels and 15x7 rear wheels and 56 dogdish caps. ZERO issues.

I just measured the back spacing of the 6" rims, and it is 4 1/4", so they should clear if I go with them.

Hoping to get to it Sunday. My car is turning around 3200 at 60 MPH, and I'm looking forward to lowering the RPM. BTW, did you have to swap your yolk out?
