Default '63 SWC with 99964 miles ??????????

Owned '63 SWC Topflight for 10 years at that time with 97,754 miles. All indications of past repair and service records appeared to be accurate. Drove yesterday to freshen with new gas since winter storage and have 99,964 mi on odometer. Would it be sacrilistic to disconnect speedo cable (my paranoia is effecting a sane decision)????? My OCD gets the better of me with trivial things like this. Am I BEGEE22

Hi, if it makes you feel better do it. Unless you know the complete history of the car with proof...no one in the future will believe it anyway. 200 miles a year is not much...too bad to keep the car from being seen and driven.

When I sold my first split window, the odometer showed 01963.

Buyer thought I faked it. Pointed out that it hit that after his test drive. (I did take a picture, though)

Of course like Jack says, no one believe the odometer on a 60 year old car anyway. I don’t.

My split window shows 89,988 miles and I have every reason to believe it’s correct but no positive documentation. That won’t stop me driving it or have me faking the mileage

My 67 shows 83,611 and the condition of the car, which I've owned for 12 years, makes that seem realistic. But I've owned many Sting Rays with broken speedo cables and driven them for many miles before fixing it, so the shown mileage on my car, and yours, is irrelevant.

When it hits 100,000 I'll be with my girlfriend on the coast somewhere enjoying the moment!

Your odometer is probably 1-2% fast anyway so you don't really have that many miles on it.

I don't get the concern. So what if it turns over? Does the value plummet? Mine broke at 98K years ago so it'll be forever young I guess. I wish it did work though. I would rather see how many miles I can pile on it.

I've restored 6 cars. Always reset to 0 miles.

If it were mine, and I decided to let it roll over, I would probably try to shoot a video of the odometer as it flipped over.

Boy thats a tough one-I always thought anything over 100k is washed-up (not true) but always growing up my dad said "100K miles, thats wore-out". If its in good shape I would worry less.

I wont have to think about it on my car for awhile.

There is only one correct answer, as the OP's car reaches precisely 99,999 it needs to be taken off the road and stored in one of these for posterity. Future admirers will ooh and aah over this under-100,000 mile beauty.

But -- let the odometer roll to the dreaded 00,001 and the earth's tectonic plates will shift and the polar ice caps will melt....just before the extinction event-sized meteor strikes the planet...:

That used to be the benchmark milage for junking a car. Even less in many cases.

The engines would be using a lot of oil/smoking. Drivers seat broken dpwm. worn and ragged. Carpets or rubber mats worn through to the floorboard. Paint dulled down and the body rusty. Front suspension worn out.

I agree with this one.

If possible have a passenger (please don't try to operate a camera / video recorder while driving the car) record the odometer as it rolls over to 100K.

Definitely get a picture of the odometer at 99999 miles.

Personally, I always doubt low miles on an old car. So many used to disconnect the cable to extend the warranty, rewind the odometer with a drill, experience a broken cable,
or have them go around past 100,000 it becomes doubtful the mileage was correct

I like to put on as many miles as possible. I don't feel like I am getting my money's worth unless I put on lots of miles! I also keep track of the money spent per mile (excluding gas). The Corvette is not too good yet. After me putting 60,000 miles on it, I'm at $1.66 cdn.per mile. My Chevelle after 180,000 miles was down to $0.27 per mile.
Don't worry about mileage, my Chevelle had 332,000 miles on it. If you keep it good shape in doesn't matter.

Personally, I don't think I would want to risk the increased opportunity to get a speeding ticket with a disconnected speedometer/odometer. Drive your car within the posted speed limit and enjoy the ride.
