always an ***hole
Yesterday...........a perfect sunny day for a cruise out to the coast in the '64. .. After a stop at a popular cruise-in parking area,, the junction of hwy 84/35, a couple of guys came over to ask about the car and take a few pics. Being older guys, the conversation lasted 10 minutes, or so., coupled with car speak and remembrances of these cars back in the day. It was a good back and forth.
Driving west on 84 to the coast, a few miles from La Honda, a group of bicyclists is pedaling alongside the road. I'm the lead car. There's no shoulder to speak of on this section of roadway that has many blind curves in this mountainous area. I slow down to pace the bicyclists....speed about 25 mph. .. Several blind curves coming up. No way to safely pass. . .. . Then it starts. Big azz truck headlights and grill fill the rear view mirror. Then 3 quick blasts on the horn........followed by 3 more. .. The second set of horn got under my skin. After passing the bicyclists when safe to do so I slow down to 5 mph peering intently at both the side and rear view mirrors. Perhaps not a smart thing to do but I'm really pizzed.
The ***hole backs off and stayed back. .. Nothing like getting horn to disturb the tranquility. . . At La Honda the idiot turns off the hwy, about 30 seconds later had there been no slowdown. .. Quite bugged it was still a great run down the coast to Santa Cruz.

Better to let those clowns go their own way and just laugh about it... You can get some rounds pumped into you or your car around Orlando by enraged drivers and it doesn't even have to be nighttime anymore...
I used to be a bit of a jerk in traffic until I retired and slowed W-A-Y down....now I just smirk and think how those other folks are rushing hither and yon, to work, store, meetings, job sites, picking up kids and I have no particular place to be and no fixed time to get there!.
Delightful!

Maybe you shouldn't have been an ***hole and slowed down after you passed the bicycles? I think you were just asking for it, especially since you backed up the traffic so bad by driving along at 25 mph?

I definitely can understand your anger, especially when the guy is in your rear.
But man.....you gotta be careful out on the road, even more so in this great (not so), State of California.
There's just too many nuts out there who's more than willing to ram the back of your car, or worse yet, shoot at you.
Need to just move along.
And believe me, I've done similar, or worse things before.
I'm kind of like Fankie, since I retired, I have calmed down considerably and try to laugh at the nut cases that are out there.
Give me a note and take a drive up to Apple Hill. I'd love to see your Vette!

I don't go out of my way (anymore) to be an azzhat back at them, but if I'm driving safely at a reasonable speed, I'm not going to go 80 to appease them. I don't play azzhat by blocking or staying in the left lane, either.
But, on a two lane road, I don't flip 'em off, I wave them around. When there is no way for them to go around, they can get as pissed off as they want. If they want to make a big deal about it "communicating" I just hold my knuckle up to my eye and pretend to rub it as if I'm crying. Pisses the HELL out of most of 'em, but a few have just relaxed and busted up in response.

Obviously a little younger than many of you it has just been this year that I seriously reevaluated my hot-headed temper with discourteous drivers.
I came to the realization that:
1) it's not rational for me to be personally affronted when the lunatic around me doesn't know me. Just realizing it isn't personal makes a difference if you think about it!
2) when two of us are behaving badly in a scenario to anyone watching we are BOTH just as arrogant and angry, I no better than him/her
3) my KIDS are taking their cues from me.
I no longer let the arrogance of others control me or influence my driving. It's serious business and not worth getting hurt over.

This is going to be my down fall. I know better than to yell at the idiots but they are idiots. And here in the Memphis area they don't mind shooting at all.

Guys, It is universal. I am guilty of letting it get to me and probably guilty of causing grief for others. There is always the person who holds up traffic and the one who becomes impatient.

I've accidentally seen about four minutes of that movie, always the same part where the truck is riding Weaver's ***. I still have no idea why the trucker is pissed off, or how Weaver's character eventually resolved the issue.
