Default Double carb spring

I see many of you have put a secondary carb spring on your accelerator linkage for a safety feature. Great idea. I have the correct carb spring for my Carter AFB, but need to know what you use for the smaller spring that fits inside the primary spring?

Its more pressure on the throttle plate shaft to run concentric springs on the same side and I'm not sure how you would hook that up to the the throttle shaft since the original spring hooked end goes through the throttle shaft hole (also serving as a 'keeper'). I ran a second spring off the kickdown lever hole (red circle) going the OTHER way for a while but eventually abandoned it. I don't think I've had a return spring break in my life but I'm sure it can happen.

You can Google dual carburetor springs and find many sources for them. Summit should have some from Mr. Gasket and others.

I run them on 2 or my old cars including the Vette. Don't happen to have a picture of the Vette so this is the other one.

I'm not sure it's necessary on an occasional driver who isn't doing a lot of matting the throttle and banging shifts constantly. Probably work just as well to use a newer, single spring and change them out every 10 years or so for a new one.

Just because it makes me feel good, I usually put a small weaker spring inside the main spring. I feel like if the main one breaks or comes loose the smaller one will at least pull it up off of the full open position, and maybe save an over rev or possibly an accident. It makes me feel better and only costs. a couple of bucks

I stumbled onto a thread here that took place back in 2013 I believe it was and saw comments about the spring breaking and leaving the throttle wide open. Much of the discussion then reverted to how to safely shut down your engine if this happens. If I put 500 miles per year on this '64 I would be surprised, so will continue to go with new single spring. Thanks guys.

Where did you get the smaller spring with the right tension?

O'Reilly's. It came in a multi-pack I think maybe four springs of different sizes. Maybe more, it's been a long time.

Here's what I've been using for a dozen years or so. I think I got the springs at an auto parts store. I have a cotter pin and washer thru the end of the throttle shaft in place of the spring ends. Dual springs are required to pass tech at autocross events where I compete and in which I frequently floor the gas.
