Default 1967 L-88 at Mecum

Forgive me if this has been posted already.I spend most of my time up in the C3's. Just wanted too share this with you guy's.. Mecum Indy has a 67 L-88 coming up for auction. A one of twenty car.

I'm having my 72 professionally restored. When I brought the 67 L-88 up to the head guy who's doing my work. His reply was "gear heads are loosing interest in these cars, prices are dropping." He does own two stunning 66 big blocks himself.

My reply to him was, there's a big difference between a gear head and a deep pocket collector. Especially on a rare 1 of 20 car. I think you'll be surprised at what it hammers for? Your thoughts?

^^ And it will still most likely sell for in excess of the low estimate. Imagine what the 12 mile coupe or the white/blue Daytona racer would sell for if they ever went to public sale.

It's certainly now a beautiful Corvette, regardless of it's past...

Is it time to post this again?

Did Bob Baker make contact with a wall during one of his many forays to the drag strip by chance or did this have something to do with the 'towing incident'?

I predict Beautiful will not equate to record value, history and provenance trumps appearance, when it comes to authenticity and collectability. While a checkered past is acceptable, it also can be a weakness.
Have a question about your photos of the L88's how can the first L88 the silver coupe 194377S110055 be the first car, when obviously 194677S109097 the DeLorenzo car is recognized as the first L88 and a lower serial number?

Does 194377S110055 have any paperwork? Provenance? History? Surviving drivetrain?

Sorry Roy, I know little of the genesis or authenticity of the picture beyond comments some folks here have made regarding it in the past. I saved it more for it's wow factor than anything else.

Derek, TCracingCA, may know more about it as he's commented on it a few times in the past.

I think Buddy's '67 convertible that sold about 5 years ago is my choice for pick of the litter.

I think the white #88 car is one of the very few 67 L88's that still has it's original engine.

So why is it a secret? There should be no known information withheld from the Corvette world regarding a car like this for people that might be interested in the car for purchase especially at the prices they bring. There is certainly no problems here posting info on other cars that have a checkered past or known re-stamped engines etc.

The collectors who buy these cars know the secret. It was also said what was done

Again why do these cars garner any special treatment with regards to known secrets/problems over any other car discussed here? If anything, with their high values it should be more important to have any problems aired to the Corvette public.

I believe anybody that has an interest in this car based on the wording in the description. Can find the basic facts pretty easily. I'm not going to subject myself to any legal action by posting something in a public forum about a vehicle that may have a very checkered past. These cars were race cars they got used up. Just tell the truth when you sell it, that's all anybody can ask for or should expect, seldom does that happen. Instead they wordsmith the description and dance around the issues just enough to protect themselves with the description.

So, the deep pockets are willing to sue to protect their subterfuge?
