The silver FI and red FI big tank '63s look like great cars.

I'm always stunned at a freakin' old car that will go for over $2MM......wife and I worked an entire lifetime to get to that point to be financially secure and somebody will blithely fork over that amount for a toy.....must be nice.

Sorry - a rainy Sunday morning here and too much coffee...

Nice split windows....these cars are almost (ALMOST!) becoming worth too much to drive a lot. I literally had a girl riding "b!tch" on the back of her boyfriend's Harley nearly fall off the other day taking a cell phone picture of the rear of my car while hanging on to the driver of the speeding motorcycle...with one hand.

Another fella basically stalked me around a gas station making offer after offer on the car .... got to $90K cash and I got p!ssed and finally told him to step off and stop it. Ignorant...

Its gone past being flattering at this point and a bit annoying...you wonder if somebody's gonna follow you home someday and clean out the garage while you're sleeping...

Frankie, I did notice the rush to drag out every split to this event has died down some. Most of the Mecum and Barrett events I’ve attended in recent years, it looked like everyone was trying to cash in. Maybe they are all sold now.

There were just a few splits... the silver/red fuelie and the red/red tanker were the stunners. There was also another red that seemed a bit overrestored, in that the Riverside Red seemed TOO red. There was another silver/Black with air that didn’t seem like a real air car, nor did it bring AC money.

I don’t. If you could describe it- year, color, I might be able to find out.

I think many owners thought (as well as many on here) that the split window frenzy was a 'bubble' (some prob still do) and the rush to sell overwhelmed many owners. The 'buy and hold' types (like me and you Steve) are in for the long haul. Sooo, my theory is when the remaining owners saw the prices continue to rise they decided to hold on to 'em...

And, yes, Riverside Red, is one tough color to get right....frankly, my car when I got it had a red with too much "black" in it according to my body man (I'm sure that means something to many but I'm the worst with colors). I was fortunate on my repaint as an owner had his original lacquer Roman Red '62 (same color as 63 Riverside Red, just different name) in the shop that had unfaded paint in several places. We matched to that...

White air coupe sold for $159,500 with premium. Seems tall for an auto car. From the photo above, has had at least right side fender replaced and perhaps front clip.

If you're speaking of the silver '67, it got to $190K, which did not meet the reserve.

And how in the world can you tell that fender has been replaced from that one photo with just a small section of it ??
Seriously, educate me...

Frank,

It's the profile of the inner edge of the rain gutter in the hood opening--on an OE or good PM aftermarket (Sermersheims), that edge is very narrow. Some aftermarket fenders and one piece surrounds have the fat, squared-off edge like this one.

I went out and looked at my (original paint) car.
The raised edge of the rain gutter is thin and straight.

I just learned something

This blew my mind especially since I am looking for a 63 powerglide. This felt too much period. Not a good precedent if you want to buy one. The person buying it could have bought it for the 130 list price a couple of months ago from Proteam directly before it was consigned to Mecum. I watched it on their website for at least a year not moving. They sure as heck made the right decision to send it. The AC must be crazy special to add what I think is a 40K premium in this sale over what it probably should have been in the normal world if a well restored powerglide with besides AC the same options.

Now that silver with red...heck yes.

Just to be sure - we're talking about this vertical band down the inboard drip rail ? Right ?
