Dark blue color found under original silve blue.
Wasn't there a recent thread where somebody was asking about finding a dark blue color underneath their original color of silver blue as identified on their trim tag?
I tried searching for it, but I was unable to locate it.
Thanks,
Pat

Back in the 80s I owned a 64 coupe that was painted silver over the original white paint with a silver trim tag. When the right front carpet was removed you could see the overspray on the floor where the wiper grills were painted in both colors. I was told that they probably needed a silver car in a hurry so they brought a white AO Smith body up from the basement repainted it and installed a new St Louis trim tag. Anyone else ever seen this?

Don't recall that one Pat. I did find blue under the weather stripping on my non original hood and hardtop.

Pat, I vaguely recall such a thread but don't remember what it was about overall.

There was such a thread recently except I don't remember the colors being blue & blue. Seems they were more dissimilar. I want to say one of them was yellow but can't remember if that was the underside color or the color on top. Seems the underside cover he found while stripping did not match his trim tag but I could have my memory mixed up. I remember he posted where the car once appeared on the cover of, or in Vette Vues back in the 80s or 90s.

Thanks for the reply's guys.
I wish I could find it, and it was recent.
The reason I'm looking for it is the fact that I'm finding a darker blue under my original silver blue too.
All body panels are correct as they all have matching assembly line numbers (cowl, rear area behind the tank, and both doors).
Just kind of odd that this original silver blue, also had remnants of a darker blue on the car.
Well....I may just never get an answer as to why this is the way it is.
Thanks again,
Pat

That thread was on January 28 if I’m thinking the right one. Interesting thread.
I posted on that thread so I recalled it. Mine has blue paint under a bubble that I popped. I assume it was a fender replacement.

After looking further, it appears that the darker blue was something somebody painted after the original silver blue color.
I've now found several places where the darker blue is over the silver blue.

I may be jaded but the silver blue 63 color is the all-time best C2 color

Restoring an old car is something akin to an archaeological dig, you unearth layer upon layer, each opening a window into the past.
This is something an owner/builder can appreciate. Most commercial shops just go in with a bulldozer and destroy all history without looking at it.

That and the fact that the original 340 hp motor was still sitting within the rails.
