Cost of decent paint job

Slightly off topic... but, if I could ask. What would the cost of a decent partial repair paint job be? As many of the comments here have also said "... paint was good for a 20 footer." I know matching/blending to existing paint (original or non-original) is difficult at best. I'm taking that chance. The "painter" is the restoration shop where I bought the car 6 months ago. Shop owner is a standup guy and his guys were very helpful with a non-paint problem when I first bought the car. I've seen their paint repair work up close and it passes my 66 year old eye test. Attached are a few of the inflight repair pictures. Assuming it turns out to be the most perfect paint repair in history (or "decent" at least)... a little late, but, what would you guys think the cost would be? Thanks.

they are only original once, and I agree, a good repaint will cost 20 thousand after everything is said and done. Patina is very popular these days, so my suggestion is to keep it very clean and well waxed, and leave as is. My 34,000 mile 66 has the original paint, and has numerous flaws, but still looks good from 20 feet and I love the originality

I never got an itemized estimate. Another estimate from the shop that did the paint back in 2002 was $3700. A lot of bad online reviews for them so I went with the guy that I bought the car from because, as I said, he's a really stand up guy. e.g. About a month ago, before I told him about the paint job, I didn't know it but he was continually asking the previous owner’s wife for any original documents. None came with the car when I bought it. He eventually got her to come up with all documents 1979-2018 including the original owners name and address. She didn't want any money. He didn't want any money. I bought the shop guys a few pizzas.

No more than 5k in the future....most are water based anyways, colorsand/buff it they will all look pretty good plus you dont have to worry so much driving it.
About any shop can match paint these days.
My old 73 had worn original paint and loved it. When asked "when ya going to paint it" the answer was never, it had a ton of character

I've done a lot of research and learned a great deal since my original post. I've gone from "that's impossible and incredibly high" to "I get it and understand" during that period. If you can do it all yourself or have a friend who can do the actual paint work with you providing removal and installation work, you might be able to come in for $8-10K, but it really does depend on what you want and what you expect,
For a 1st class paint job, at a decent shop, you will spend between $15-20K. You can remove and reinstall your own brightwork, even some body parts, if you want and it should save some money, but most of the shops I talked with were in the range mentioned above and they would do it all. Lots and lots of prep work when you think about it. One shop in the $18K range include new weather stripping, seals and even window felts at that price, but they would be doing other major work on my car as well.
Then you have to think about your brightwork (chrome, stainless, etc), as putting mediocre bumpers and brightwork back on a stellar paint job sort of defeats the purpose of new paint.
I haven't found a new way to "skin the cat" or some magic wand to wave. Like everything else about our cars, unless you can do it yourself, you're going to pay a lot of money. And, paying a lot of money doesn't guarantee that Bubba's not doing the work.

I am one of those $2k guys. My 58 was torn down and stripped when I bought it. Pretty much what you see in my avatar. I spent many hours putting on epoxy primer and sanding. I painted the door jams, hood and trunk surround, and installed and aligned. I trailered a one man shop who had done a lot of first quality custom work for a friend so I knew his work. I furnished the single stage Concept paint except for the cove which he furnished. My job was $2000 and it is very nice. Just another way to save some bucks.

Some people figure it out. They won't put a $20,000 paint job on a $30,000 car. Others? Well..............................
