54 wiper / fuel pump/ vacuum issue
My brand newly rebuilt fuel pump is Making ticking noise and one minute 18 inches of vacuum and then the next 1 inch at idle.
Ticking noise goes away when at 18 inches, and wipers etc won't work on that fuel pump. But when we run direct vacuum line from my 69 C10 all components of my wiper system work.
And when we run wiper / Washer system straight off intake manifold vacuum it works perfectly.
So what we know.. 1) wiper motor, transmissions and Washer work as does wiper switch (when directly on intake vacuum or 69 C10 vacuum connection. 2) previous fuel pump worked well on fuel side but pushed pressure instead of creating vacuum.
I am guessing my newly rebuilt fuel pump is hooped?

Would the system function perfectly with these vacuum sources if I had the lines mixed up at the bottom of the pump itself? As I am hoping its that easy and I'm that stupid...

The vacuum pump on the fuel pump has two one way flapper valves that work together to create vacuum. If one or both is leaking then it won't hold. Same if the diaphragm is torn or leaking. I went through that with mine. I bought a rebuild kit for it and it was a waste of time and money. I ended up getting the fuel/vacuum pump from a rebuilder, and I posted the results on youtube.
