56 steering wheel help
I just pulled my steering wheel in order to replace turn signal switch. When I pulled the wheel there was a spring on the shaft which is not shown on the assembly manual schematic. I am now trying to install the wheel, and it will NOT go on the shaft. My question is does that spring belong on the shaft? Since it is not shown in the assembly manual, I'm not sure why it was there in the first place. Any help or thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

Sounds like the upper steering column bearing spring. It is not shown in the AIM (at least as far as I can tell), but I am pretty sure it goes on the top of the steering column, and underneath the turn signal setup.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Thanks, that's what I thought, but I am having such a hard time getting the wheel back in place,The AIM says to torque between 30/40 lbs, and the wheel is still 5/8" away from the hub. I'll keep trying leaving the spring in place.
