65 FI Car Stolen at Indy?
#21
Did the hotel have any security cameras or maybe a neighboring business?

My thoughts and prayers are with the victim in this situation.
As for the thieves, I have other thoughts that don't come close to prayers
Fingers crossed, and we are all on the lookout.

Well 33 years ago I took a new job in Las Vegas. I drove my 65 coupe down from Washington state. I'd owned the car for 15 years and rebuilt everything myself. Two weeks after I got there it was stolen out of the apartment complex I was living in. The only security I had was a circuit breaker for the electric fuel pump. But dumb me I put it on the bracket for the parking brake. One of my neighbors saw the thief messing with the car and called the cops. When I got home and talked to the officer who responded all he said was "I saw the car going out the other side of the parking area and figured I could not catch him." What you don't have a radio?? Idiot! He said the car would be in a chop shop in 30 mins and I near heard anymore. I checked with the LAS PD for 5 years and it was never recovered.

Man this is terrible.
It would be hard to do again the 3 and some odd years searching for a good--solid car like I have now. -----------No matter what I get from the insurance company.
I hope for the best of turnouts for the owner.

There are 5000 cars and trucks stolen every year in Indianapolis so while we might want to think that they will jump right on this stolen car, it really isnt going to happen. I feel bad for the owner, it sucks.

That would be a heartbreaker. I hope he was up to date on it’s current market value for insurance purposes.

FI car stolen at Indy
Thank you for all the comments that all of you have posted, and the work in trying to get our corvette back. I am the owner of the stolen corvette. Yes, my wife and I are devastated. This was part of our family. We are trying to get the information out to as many people and sites as possible.
I heard that there may have been another vette stolen last weekend. If this is true could that person contact me at 815-399-6015 or 815-299-0722. Thanks again to all those wonderful people out there who are helping out.

Is the car a coupe or conv? Anything unique about the car? Black with black interior?
I know the feeling. My black 67 435 HP conv was stolen years ago.

So sorry for your loss, and hoping it finds its way home in one piece.
I would suggest that you post the complete VIN on the forum, and other places on the internet. That way, if any VIN numbered parts or the car ever show up, an internet search will quickly identify the car as stolen.

This info has been posted on the NCRS Discussion Board, with the owner's blessing.
He has owned the car 47-years. VIN number: 194375S103461
Its a real black, fuel injected coupe.

I also heard, from someone at the show, another car was stolen. It was a 58 and was found inside someone else's, not the owners, enclosed trailer leaving the show on Saturday and was recovered. That's all I know about this incident. Not all the real facts just that all the trailers leaving the show Saturday were being searched. 😕😕😕

Many car show clubs/venues hire private security for overnight patrolling of the hotel parking lot. I recently took the 56 Vette to a Trifive show in Irving, TX and there was a security patrol in the parking lot all night.
When I was going to the national Chevelle events every year (Chevellabration, last year was 2012), there were several of us Chevelle owners who volunteered ourselves (with firearms) to provide security in the parking lots. NEVER lost a Chevelle during Chevellabration events. I also took a paving brick to the events (claimed it was used as a wheel chock) for the specific purpose of mashing a thief's hand (SERIOUSLY, I'd do it in a heartbeat!).

I respectively disagree. After 37 years in the criminal justice profession(LEO and courts), possession of stolen property with the value of this car would be a felony in most states.
