Default I'll just drop this right here.

This is why I have a 16" SPAL puller fan hidden in the shroud and in front of the fan and fan clutch on my factory air equipped '67. I am planning on going to a cruise in Whittier this afternoon. Yes, I'll have the A/C on. And no. It won't even see the 210 mark on the temp gauge. Even if I get stuck in 5:00 traffic.

Those days are the one I won’t sit at a car show and find better activity’s to do inside.

Ok Randy, glad your car runs cool, but I'm not sure the puller fan is really necessary. I took a drive around town today with outside temps at 90+, A/C on, and the gauge stayed steady at 180 including idling at stoplights. Mine's bone stock.

My friend is in Whittier right now and sent this to me. FWIW, 90 degrees is not 118.

Mine's bone stock, too. 90 degrees and I don't turn the fan on either with the A/C on.

The fan was put on for those 105+ degree days we get every few days here in So Cal, today being one of them. After mine got half way between the 210 mark and red on the gauge on a 107 degree day in traffic last summer on the 22 fwy at the 57/5 interchange I did it. I never want the choice to include shutting the A/C off.

the extra fan is a good safety net. if it is controlled manually, run it without the fan and see what the temp does; if it climbs turn the fan on and see what it does

enquiring minds want to know....

Ok, you're all dialed in then. I've not been in bumper to bumper traffic for more than 15 minutes at a time, and never in temps over 100 degees. As long as my gauge stays under 220 I'm not worried, though.

BTW I'll be driving to Vegas and back later this month, so stay tuned for an update

Exactly what I did. The gauge runs below 210 degrees with the A/C up until it's about 100 degrees outside without the puller fan on. And I have it on a switch. Any warmer and the temperature gauge likes to climb. When I switched the fan on on a 105 degree day last year when it went higher than 210 the temp gauge dropped within just a few minutes to about 180. I figured I would run the fan 10-12 times a year. So far that's been the case. Like I said, I never want the choice to be overheat or shut the A/C off.

Here's Bradbury right now. It's a small city located just north of he 210 freeway from Irwindale Raceway about 30 minutes from my house.

Interesting. I have a clutch fan on my C1 and need extra cooling. Trying to decide whether I need a puller or a pusher.

It’s great to see a real world report. Prevailing wisdom says that pullers are more effective than pushers, but that a puller mounted in front of the factory mechanical fan blocks air flow and is less efficient than the stock fan by itself. Thanks for sharing your experience Randy, that is good to know!

Thanks. I really had no choice when considering puller verses pusher. In front of the radiator is the A/C condenser coil and in front of that is the automatic transmission cooler.

“My tranny cooler is mounted in the back for the same reason. Too many heat producers in front of the radiator. Fortunately, my aftermarket Griffin keeps everything cool even in the south Texas heat.
