How to open hood when release cable is broken
I have just got 67 a month ago.
I opened the hood ew times but yesterday, I tried and it did not work. I don't feel any tension. It is in my garage and I don't have a lift. Also battery is disconnected, so the car is not operable...
can anyone give me an advice? Is this a serious issue to resolve?

No, it’s not serious. I’ve had it happen twice. Once you have it opened, there are some tricks you can do to keep it from happening again.
You will need to slide under the car and look for the hood latches the reach up with a screw driver or wooden stick and manually pull the lever that releases the latch. I am able to reach it with my hand if I stretch. Hopefully, someone will post a picture so you can see what you’re looking for.
My car has sidepipes so I wasn’t able to slide under. I had to drive it up on ramps. Hope that’s not the case for you.

Which latch is the problem? Or is it both?

The cable from the under dash hood release goes to the driver side latch and the cable to the passenger side connects to that latch so try to open the driver side first. Mane you can open both latches from there.

BTW, welcome to the forum. We’re gonna want to see pictures of your new ride once you get this issue worked out.

Just to add a little more detail, the lever you are looking for extends downward from the hood latch. You may or may not see the release cable attached to it (the cable emerges from the firewall). You will need to move it toward the rear of the car. In all likelihood, when you operate the driver-side latch, the passenger side will also release as the cable between the two doesn't fail nearly as often as the main cable to the driver-side.

Here’s a photo of the driver side latch, looking down from above. You want to push that bent silver-colored lever towards the firewall as Duck 916 said.

Here are some pictures off my 64, if this helps. You can see the cable attached to the lever under the drivers side. once you get it open, make sure you have a 90* bend on all three cable ends next to the lock nut, to prevent from happening again.

And if you have factory air conditioning, the procedure for the passenger side is bit different due to the interferences. But we also have a method for that. Ask if needed.

In one of the back issues of the "Corvette Restorer" magazine don't remember which issue was a detailed procedure on how to open the hood.
If you receive the magazine look in your back issues to see if you can find it.

I know this does not help the OP, but the C-3s put a hole through the firewall and filled it with a plug. You access it by removing the wiper grill. Jerry

RatDog please tell us that is an old picture and those bare wire connectors have been removed or insulated.

That connection is in an area that’s not easily seen when looking down. I believe that orange wire with the exposed spade connector is dead-ended at both ends. I used it when I was setting up a manual shutoff for my SPAL fan. I will look at it in the morning and either pull it out or shrink wrap it.

After not being able to open my hood (twice in 1 day!), I ran a thin cable from the release lever on the latch to the front of the car behind the grill and attached a pull handle to the end of the cable. Reach behind the grill, pull the handle and the latch releases. I did this for both latches, routing the cables through existing openings in the chassis.
