I have called the funeral home and asked them to have Joe’s sister call me. I want to get her blessing on the memorial brick and send her a picture of it if she approves.

Hold led off sending me any money until I get her permission. Thanks

I called the funeral home Friday and asked that they have Joe’s sister call me. She has not called. Those of you who PMed me about a contribution, go ahead and send the money. I have asked for $10-$20 but send what ever you feel good about. Once I see how much money we have, I’ll order the brick. I’ll give an accounting after this is done. Thanks

If you want to contribute, just PM me for my name an address.

I got a call from Joe’s sister this morning. I discussed what we wanted to do for Joe with the brick and she was very thankful for the gesture. I told her I would send her a picture of the brick after it’s done.

We talked about the accident for some time. There was no medical issue. Joe was stopped at a stoplight and accelarated from a stop very hard. He lost control of the car when it hit the curb and the car flipped over and came to rest against a tree. Witnesses said he was alive when they got to him but he passed very quick. She was thankful he didn’t suffer long.

I should start receiving checks today for the brick. I’ll start a new thread in a week or so re Joe’s Memorial Brick.

Been off the forum for a few months taking a break. I am shocked to hear this terrible news, had many conversations with him over the years, always a first class man. Was just at the Oregon dunes riding sand cars, and a good friend whom was with us lost a loved one in a tragic accident.......these things really put life in perspective. Life life to the fullest!

Fixed it for you above - not nitpicking but 'jester' was not good.

This is sad, Gads - how many dozens (hundreds ?) of times have most of us done the same thing ? And gotten away with it ? I think we forget the fact that these are powerful machines even today and can get you in trouble.....and none of us have the reaction time of teenagers anymore.....just an unlucky set of circumstances it seems...

RIP Joe.

Is there a contact to get you a donation for the brick? I just looked and did not see how to proceed.
Thanks

I found this after a quick search. Very sad, but it is s good reminder of how quickly we can get in trouble in these or any car. I’m glad nobody else was hurt in the accident.
Rest In Peace, Joe.

Wow, just saw this and I'm torn between wishing I had seen it sooner and wishing I had not seen it at all. Joe and I struck up a friendship and I really enjoyed talking to him on the phone going over how I could improve my performance at the track. He was always threatening to throw my the keys to his car, and I would tell him I really wasn't up to handling all that power.
I was just getting ready to call him to say I am finally dragging my car out east and invite him out the track in May. Joe, I will miss you and your knowledge of small block Corvettes.

God Speed,
Donny.

Donny, when and where are you going out east?

BTW, I sent an email to the NCM this morning to see if the tile is up.
