Aluminized vs Stainless Side Exhausts
Is there a difference in the sound of aluminized side exhausts vs stainless? Which is the loudest? Are there any relatively quiet side exhausts on the market?

You might want to give the folks at Allen's a call and ask them. They sell both and would certainly know if there is a difference. (574) 722-7272

The words "Sidepipe" and "Quiet" are mutually exclusive.

John is right -- there are no quiet sidepipes. I've had 3 sets on my L76. Both the Allen's aluminized and a custom made "Vettepacks" set were just annoying after a long cruise, The Sweet Thunder "Quiet" pipes on the car now are much easier to live with but they're not quiet by any comparison to under car exhaust.

I chose Sweet Thunder 2 1/2" in SS and they added the ceramic felt full length in an attempt to reduce some dBs. But I'm sure the greatest noise reduction will come from shifting to 5th. OD is an awesome noise reducer.

I fully understand there are no 'quiet" side exhausts. I asked about "relatively quiet" side exhausts. Mine are loud and I like them but I'm curious if there is a pecking order to the sound of various brands and material. I see some advertised as having "factory sound" - whatever that means. Too bad they don't have a setup like Flowmaster (think its Flowmaster) has where you can actually listen to the different mufflers to compare the sound. IMHO loud mufflers can be harsh, but they don't have to sound like open headers and they can sound badass without hurting your ears. The right sound is music to the enthusiasts ears.

I had Allen's 2.5" stainless and hated the sound. Sounded like an old farm truck. I put 3" Give No Mercy pipes and they sound AWESOME...

I've read numerous reports that compared to carbon steel pipes, stainless pipe sounds a little tinny and harsher. I've never had stainless steel so I can't vouch for this - it's only what I hear posted.
