Default get them intrested when they are young

My grandson is 3 yrs old, anytime he is at the house and im in the garage he has to hang with Gpa. I love it and he is full of surprise at what he sees and hears, I had just put a fresh battery in the 65 and wanted to fire it up, he jumped in the passengers side and insisted on being buckled in , even though we weren't leaving the garage. cant wait until he is a little older so I can take him on a cruise, its just a small snipit sorry for the sideways shot.

These 4 grandsons are ready to go. I have confidence in the next generations to enjoy these old cars.In fact, I sold the car in this picture to a 31 year old, super nice guy, and he is ready to restore it.

I do the same with my 5-year-old grandson - he absolutely LOVES "Grandpa's Caww-vettes", and always wants to "visit" them when he's at the house. At local car shows with the '62, I try to make it a point to invite the courteous, respectful young folks (and yes, there still are some) to have a seat inside. After all, folks, young people are the future of our hobby, if it is to have one at all. Continually chasing them away and sending the message that they aren't welcome is very short-sighted.

True, and they soak up the knowledge fast, and even help (and sometimes put away the tools too).

A early interest will apply to good fun, expensive transitional motorized hobbies (and excitement when they crash), and good jobs.

My son was recently hired by a bicycle shop as a mechanic, the only minor to be hired by the local store. The store is part of a national chain, and the hire required corporate approval. The job was not advertised, the opportunity came up in the store when my son mentioned to the manager that he was hoping for some weekend stage crew work to buy some parts. The lead mechanic has known my son for years, from his questions and odd parts orders for numerous bicycles, mini-bikes, and motorized bikes and agreed to test his skills. Even the lead mechanic was surprised that he asked for a torque wrench (critical with carbon fiber frames), and that he could quickly build new bikes out of the box without making any mistakes. Starting mechanic wages are better than the sales floor, and better than the typical minimum wage fast food job. Start them young, and encourage them to get knowledge and a mix of grease under their hat, along with a bit of corvette fever.

what a great shot, my son never had any Interest in cars of any kind, transportation is the way he looks at them, My youngest daughter loved them and would go to car shows , the track where ever I went. I have to find the picture I have of her installing pistons in my 65 when we rebuilt the motor, now my grandsons are a very different story, they just cant get enough of it and I could not be happier.
even my grand daughter is getting the fever, they were fighting over who was going to drive.

The grand daughter has loved all of my cars and works with me doing carpentry, light car repairs, household handyman fixes, etc... Don't know if it'll continue but I sure love it. And she actually LISTENS to what I tell her -- how rare...

Fearless too....she just got her junior PADI SCUBA diver certification at age 10 with her parents on a Caribbean vacation.. Didn't even know you could do that at such a young age. Ziplines, wake boarding, karate, nothing fazes her...

Great pictures, must be proud! Now, so that they can ALL drive the car Someday. This is what I did to my C2 Corvette for my adult kids and future grandchildren: ( only a suggestion ) Add power Rack & Pinion power steering, 4L60E automatic transmission with EFI fuel injection for easy driving and reliability, power Wilwood disc brakes for safety. Add a New Electronic A/C for comfort and a new stereo system with surround sound speakers. Anything else you add will be a bonus. Our future generation is use to comfort and tech, anything less for (them) is like riding your lawnmower to cut the grass.

My not quite 2 year old son loves my 2 classic cars and wants to go in the other garage everyday to either just sit or ideally go for a drive. Usually the caddy so the wife can go also. As an older dad i'm loving it and hoping he will enjoy them and I would like to pass them on to him.

Our 3 year old grandson Liam makes a beeline to my shop to see the "co vette" when he visits. His pal Freddie likes it too!

My daughter in her younger years was often a great help (I think this project was with the clutch linkage).

My daughters choice of career development is not mechanics, but she can still exhibit the prospective in art.

Get them interested when they are young, and they will take the experience wherever they go in life.
