Restoring 67 bolt on wheels
I have a set of 67 bolt on wheels from the 1990s. They are nice driver quality wheels, but the clear coat is messed up. I wanted to install them on my 63. Has anyone stripped clear off and re sprayed?
I took them to a local wheel shop that quoted me $179 over the phone to completely redo them. When I got there they wanted $179 per wheel.

The local powder coating people in my area use some sort of acid to dip the wheels in before they coat them. I would call around and see how much it would be. Then of coarse you would have to mask off the fins and re-spray them

I have restored a couple of sets of C3 alloy wheels. I've spent from 2 - 4 hours per wheel. They came out very nice, but it was a lot of work. The mid-year finned alloys would not be as simple to restore. Shops that do this for a living have a lot of tools and experience to make this a much easier and more efficient job.
Good luck... GUSTO

Local corvette guru suggested wd40 and scotchbrite pads. About 15 minutes per wheel and they are good to go now.
