Ok - Carlisle - what is the draw?
I have never been
What is the draw?
I get that there is prob more parts vendors
Seems to be alot of "newer" cars
There is no certification - correct?
No points judging - Correct?
I saw about 100 "celebrity" awards..... owner of Paragon, owner of Corvette Central, owner of Corvette Mikes
I get hanging with vette friends - what is the draw...
just asking.....

The draw is looking for that rare good used part to help your restoration finding new parts. Looking at thousands of cars and meeting new people and friends

Plus, we’ve been attending off and on since it started, a lot of tradition. A couple days of nothing but Friends and Corvettes....

Safety Car
Chris every year I go to Cruising the Coast. Its the largest event in Misissippi. It's based in Biloxi ms but scattered across 29 miles and when I say scattered it's solid cars. There will be 8000 registered, have to be pre 89, and at least that many newer cars that don't register. There's no judging or anything just 100,000 plus car enthusiasts. It's really the only week in the year I don't mind traffic and traffic there is. I assume Carlisle is the same just all Corvette. I can't imagine you've never been. Some day I'll make it up there to see for my self.

It is big. You will probably see at least one of every Corvette ever made maybe including the very first Corvette. I've only been to Bloomington Gold and Carlisle. Carlisle is better in my opinion.

I went once looking to buy a 57 Vett. with a pocket full of cash.
All I found were several 57's that were double of what I eventually paid for one online.
There are a lot of sellers that are dreaming of getting rich in one week.
Most of the parts are useable if you are repairing a driver, but there are also rare parts that are unattainable anywhere.

Thousands and thousands of Corvettes, every year represented, more vendors in one place than you will see anywhere else on the planet, many thousands of great Corvette people . . . .and this year looks like wonderful weather to top it all.
Yeah, what's the draw?

You never know what’s going to be there. I go for parts for my 63. But you never know what’s going to make it’s way there and being in person with cash is much different than bidding on eBay or an internet listing where a bazillion people are looking. The posted prices there are usually dream prices. Spend time talking and that price drops and drops. I have a freind that comes that can talk and talk until your ears bleed. He gets a kick outta working people down in prices. It’s fun to see how low they go. I tell him all the time he should charge for the service.
1st day at Chrysler Carlisle I missed a nice ‘69 Charger project that just sold for $6500. Probably a 16k “Internet” sale value. I’ve always wanted one and have been looking long enough to know what’s worth what. Don’t want to spend a fortune for one, but it was exactly what I’ve been looking for, for what I want to do.
Being there ups your chances of being at the right place at the right time.
This is the first corvette Carlisle I’m missing in quite a few years.

I think your question answers itself. You listed many of the draws and if that doesn't "draw you" (we're all different) then there is no draw (for you).
I still think this is a tongue in cheek rhetorical question, but maybe not.

I went several times during my "Mustang years" in the 80s - if you wanted rare parts and to make connections to movers and shakers in the hobby that's what you did. I was younger then and could walk for hours in the sun with a bumper or fender apron over one shoulder and a bag of goodies in the other hand.
Now, I don't feel a single atom of my being crying out for me to go to Carlisle. Hot prob, crowded, lodging/traffic hassles and most of what I need I can get off the Internet or from local buddies. If I want all that aggravation I can go 12 miles to Disney or Universal...
The Florida NCRS Regional is enough to give me my annual "dose" of car hobby stuff.

When we first started going to Carlisle I was always scouring the grounds looking for parts and deals. You can always find what you're looking for it's the deal that's elusive. In later years when I wasn't in need of anything it became more enjoyable because it became more about meeting people and BS-ing about cars.
