Default Shock Absorbers

I have a '63 coupe that needs new shocks. What are you guys using on your cars? This is just a weekend driver, so I'm not looking for a harsh ride. Thanks

You can buy modern Delco shocks that will work just fine and even get you a few judging points otherwise Monroe Gas-Adjust do well....many opt for more stiffness or expensive adjustable shocks which for most street driving aren't needed...

I've used Delco premium gas shocks on several C-2's and C-3's. It's a great shock and less than $100 for a set of 4.

As you may know, AC-Delco hasn't manufactured anything for years. They're just a marketing organization, contracting suppliers and re-packaging parts in AC-Delco boxes. I would go right to the source and get either Monroe or Gabriel shocks. Paint them gray to look like the originals if you like.

I've posted this before, but the last set of AC-Delco shocks I bought had the Gabriel labels under the AC-Delco labels.

I just replaced the shock's on my '66 with new Koni Str T (Orange body) shocks and have been super happy with them so far. The old Monroe's had really begun to let the car wallow so it was time for a change. The ride is like new - firm but not stiff or jarring and keep the car well planted. Just what I was looking for.

I installed a set of QA-1’s 10 yrs ago and love them. You can adjust them in minutes using the dial in the housing. I pretty much leave them where I like them, but did loosen them up for a long road trip once. The car floated down the road like an old Buick, which was nice for traveling.

I also went with the KYBs (painted correct color just for the heck of it).
I am still happy with them.

I have a low-mileage set of KYB gas shocks recently removed from my '66 (replaced with OEM hydraulic Delco/Pliacell units). You can have them (el-freebo) -- if you drive down to Black Forest & pick them up at a time convenient for me. Painted, labeled, ready to install, etc. Let me know by PM if interested.
