When i had my shop it was $50 an inch, piece, for Mallory. That was 25 years ago it could easily be $100 a piece now. To convert a stock 400 crank to I eternally balanced would take 5-6 pieces. Not a very good investment. I did do a few that wanted a small balancer for clearance or whatever. They would require 2 pieces. The rear is all together different it would require 3-4 pieces.

With the exception of the 56, on all my other 400s I use a 400 balancer and a 454 flywheel. The machine shop that I use has been building and balancing all kinds of engines for so long, that they can practically balance anything blind folded.

On the 400 in the 56, I only had heavy metal added tot he front of counter weight and use an early 327 finned balancer. On the rear, I used a neutral balance 168 teeth flywheel and had metal removed as needed for balance. Worked out real nice.

The big question is , how much power do you want to make and what is your intended usage ?
