Default 64 front parking lights

Are they supposed top go off when the headlights are on?

They are on when the switch is at the half way point, then they go out when the headlights are on (switch all the way out).

Parking lamps went out when the headlamps came on. The parking lamps staying on with the headlights was something the automakers started doing in the 70's.

Some have reworked their headlight switch to have parking lights on with the headlights. So if you see this, that is what has been done.

Around here in 1964, that modification was popular with the Corvette jacket/jewelry crowd. They'd roll through the drive-in with the headlights on but rolled in and use the parking lights for clearance light. Thinking they were just about the coolest car on the lot!

Many thanks guys.

I won first place at the local car show at work. There was a real nice 59 MGA that was solid competition, I voted for that car.

I got a 60th NASA Anniversary T-shirt and 2 coffee cups as a prize, plus the opportunity to look at cool cars and talk to other car people.

Never modified the parking lights on my '67, but frequently did cruise the parking lot with headlights on but down. Back then, it WAS cool! Also had 2 small green lights mounted behind the grill, with a separate switch. I would not do it now, but back then it was sort of my car's "signature" and I (and others) thought it was Funny how your tastes change over the span of 50 years or more.

Back in the day, the first thing we did was jerk the hubcaps off, and the air cleaner, and some would retard the ignition so it would have that '3/4 cam lope' as they drove through the rows of the drive in. All it took was one backfire through the carb to mess that plan up though.

One of m first cars ! Loads of fun for a teenager, required constant tinkering and primitive (except for disc brakes)!

Front Parking Lights Mod if interested.

Transfer purple wire from terminal #7, reinstall purple wire into terminal #3
Best to disconnect battery and remove switch first.
