I would hope their finger prints are on the car. It shouldn’t be to hard to find the thieves if you can get prints.
Congrats to the owner, I too wasn’t expecting it to be recovered.

Your situation happened over 30 years ago. Times have definitely changed. A buddy on the local force is on the auto theft task force. When busting a "chop shop ring" they won't make any arrests until they have at least 5 videos of the bad guys actually stealing the cars. Anything less will be reduced to misdemeanors.
If you have a minute, here's my story. 6 months ago, I caught a guy breaking into my place. Unfortunately for him, he brought a pipe wrench to a gun fight ( yes, I have a CWP and carry at all times). After running away, the police found his coat, watch and wallet (with 1 gram of meth.) in the neighbors yard. Later, the dogs got him and I identified him. He had 30 prior arrests for burglary/possession of stolen property. Mine made 31. He still hasn't gone to trial due to failure to appear and delays. Since then, he's been arrested 3 more times for burglary. The drug charge was dropped because it's possible that someone found his wallet, put in the drugs and then threw it away. I have a copy of his 3 pages of criminal history if you would like me to post them. Guess what? He's still free walking around and stealing to support his habit.

I was so excited when Gary called me and told me the good news.
I first contacted Gary about some other issues, and then I found out that he had just lost his 65 Corvette. After that the other issues (some parts I am looking for) just paled in significance to finding out about Gary's car and doing whatever I could to get the word out.
I am so thrilled for Gary and his wife.
The car will need lots of TLC, but she will be home soon, and once again a nice solid original car.

They still prosecute burglars etc in AZ. I sent three people to prison for burglarizing my cabin, in two separate events. Having them on video helped.

it is my feeling that we don’t need to know these people personally or even through the Internet to feel their pain. If you’re a car guy not even necessarily a Corvette guy you can still feel what they’re feeling just because we have a love for these old cars. You can call Corvette brothers or just old car brothers.

......great news!
It just goes to show you how easy these old cars are to steal, if morons like that can do it. So.....don't let them out of your sight when out in public.

One of the responding deputies, who knows my business, suggested I invest in a back hoe. I think he was serious.

Looks like USA Today picked up the article from the Indianapolis Star. It’s in our local paper today with a picture of the owner and the car.

Congratulations on the return of your car. Was it driven away or towed when stolen?
