Default Powder coating

Has anyone had their intake manifold and/or valve covers powder coated Chevrolet Orange instead of painting them? How would they look and hold up to the engine heat?

I’ve powder coated many engine parts and it holds up really well. The only thing that may be an issue is there may be some discoloration at the at the heat riser on the manifold if you are still using it. Just about everything in this picture has been powder coated. The section of blue pipe coming from the secondary turbo regularly had 450-500 degree air flowing through it until I added the air to water intercooler.

I powder coated the intake on my 68 small block in Chevy orange about 15 years ago. It still looks new. Jerry

I have a powder coated Chevy aluminum intake, that the guy I inherited it from had done in 'natural' gray. I am not impressed with the finish. It is too glossy. If you have one done in orange, maybe they could kill a little of the gloss where it didn't look wet.

A lot of colors are available in gloss, semi-gloss, satin and matte. With the clears, you can almost any level of sheen. In my picture above some of what looks like polished aluminum is actually powder coat. Kinda hard to tell one from the other.

Did you block off the exhaust crossover passage? I have the stock choke set up and was wondering if the exhaust heat would discolor the powder coated surface.

Bob: If you are referring to the crossover that allows exhaust gas under the carb., I blocked the ports off to keep the carb. cool. So, no, I do not have a problem with discoloration. Jerry

Thanks for the reply. Do you know if there is still enough heat to make the heat coil for the choke functional?

I don't know. I went with an electric choke. However, the shop that does the power coat should be able to block off the choke well so choke operation should not be a problem. Jerry
