Default Midyear Trailing Arm Bushing how-to

There have been recent threads on bushings needing replacement, so when I had to do a trailing arm bushing on a buddies 65, I figured I would try to post it up.

FYI all, this is just how I personally like to do it. There may be other ways, but this is what I found to be the simplest for me. Many folks dont realize how involved it all is. Its not a simple press out and press in procedure. It may take me a few more minutes to post all photos, so please wait till its all done.

I hope it helps out fellow CF members.

I think there is a special tool for installing trailing arm bushings. Good time to check " E brake shoes

Default Bushing

Arm is coated in 60’s undercoating. We decided to leave it as is. I cut a + into the bushing rather than drill it out. Takes 60 seconds.

That's a good process. I'm wondering why you left the caliper and knock off adapter on while luging the arm around. Have you ever had the wheel bearing done, e-brake? Now would be the time. Dennis

Default Press bushing

I am fortunate to be able

to use the original kent moore tool. Make sure everything is aligned and press in evenly. If it goes crooked, re set it. I also put in shims to make sure the arm does not crush.

Default Bushing

Once its squeezed tight, flare the sleeve to hold the bushing in place.

Nice job, I stopped drilling them out years ago and cut them out the same way. How far off was the finished thickness compared to the originals?

Default Thickness

Not sure if thickness was different, but original shims went back in and alignment shop said NO adjustment needed, all back to stock specs.
