Default 1956 dash mirror in a 57?

My 57 according to the NCRS registry birthday calculator, the approximate birthday of my V.I.N. E57S102890 is March 19, 1957. I don't know if any early 57 had a 56 mirror or not. My 57 has a 56 mirror I assume someone replaced with the wrong one since my car is a mid model year build.

I don’t believe any 57 came with a 56 mirror.

I have understood that NCRS will accept a 56 mirror in VERY, VERY, VERY early 57 cars.

What is the difference between a 56 and 57 mirror?

The 1956 has an adjustment wheel at the back of it for tension.

Ah, whereas the 57 uses a jamb nut.

Hemi, my '57 was built about 6 days after yours, and it has a '57 mirror.

Are you going to buy one? I think I have an original '57 mirror somewhere, but it's not very nice.

1956 - Thumbscrew in base All '56
1957 - No thunbscrew in base '57, overlap use of '56 may have occurred to vin 200.

From 1956-1957 NCRS Judging Manual, 6th edition

The 57 that I restored was built in Feb. No thumb screw.

My Feburary 57 also had the 57 type mirror but coming from a ex GM assembly supervisor I can insure you that if we ran out of 57 mirrors and there were some 56 left over they would be used. Just saying😜😜😜
