State of Georgia Rejects Prestige as Obscene
I applied for a prestige tag for my 67. Simple; 67-L79. I get a letter today from the Dept. of Revenue telling me the tag "contains a combination of letters/numbers that are obscene". I can't imagine the thought process in our government that determined 67L79 is obscene. Am I missing something here? . Can't believe this happened. Now you know it did me no good to call them. So I had to option and wrote a letter to appeal to a review board of three panel members.

I believe it is known as pussification of the Country where everything is insulting to someone and, as we know, that is not permitted.

I think there is something about L & 7 being used to make a swastika. L7 = square, & two 7L's make a swastika (with combining & rotation).

There is a worked canary yellow new camaro by me with a new plate “GFY” and that was approved. I’ll try your combo in CT and see what happens as that would be the plate for me exactly

Many years ago I saw an AMC with NY tags "69 OMY". Even back then I could not believe it was allowed.

I would think, in the appeal letter that the car is 1967 car, with documentation showing an L79 motor is real thing, should work. I imagine Acura NSX owners have similar problems.

My Camaro has 69XSS. They let it go in Arizona.

one rule was that if "69" was part of the desired plate number, it would not be considered for approval unless the vehicle year was 1969.

I tried to get SUBICHN (subie chan) for my BRZ and they disallowed it, guess they read it as su bithcn. CA actually says 69 is allowed only for 1969 model year cars

Granted there's probably some automated process that kicks back most plates but I bet it also gets reviewed by an actual person. Depends on what kind of a prude is looking at them that day.
I remember a story in Off Topic where someone went in to try to get a personalized plate THGLIFE (something what I wouldn't want, but it is OT). Approved and went to pick them up. But then literally taken out of his hands on the way out. Later on a return visit he spied them on display in someone's cubicle. OK to display in public in a DMV office but not on your car. I'd link to the story but the language it rough.
That said I've been running this plate for years (shared here before---sorry):

When I was stationed in Germany, I had a BMW with a US Army plates that were HJ 0420. My German landlord said that would never be allowed on a German car.
EXPLANATION: HJ = Hitler Jugen, 0420 = Hitler's Birthday, April 20th.

Well...…..that plate reminds me of a old joke as does this historical obsession with the number 69. Here goes: Sigmund Freud is chomping on this cigar and this sociologist asks him what a phallic symbol is. Freud says: "A phallic symbol can be a light pole, a tall building, a parking meter, a fire hydrant, to name just a few". The sociologist says: "Well, Dr. Freud, couldn't a Cuban cigar, much like the one you are smoking, also be considered a phallic symbol?" Freud responds: "Son....sometimes a cigar is just a cigar".
