Who makes or the name of a company who makes custom License Plates like California Black Plates? I had a company many a few years ago but can not find it now. Thanks in advance.

Licenseplates.tv is a place I’ve had plates made. They look exactly like an original plate, down to the reflective background.

There was (and maybe still is) a guy on eBay that would make you a novelty plate with anything you wanted on it for $13....its not embossed like a real plate - sort of silk-screened onto aluminum....once its mounted behind a clear plastic cover nobody notices. If its just a novelty item - I don't see spending more...
Here is the one he did for me:

Aluminum, embossed, exact replica, will put whatever you want on them. Type in what you want and it shows a picture of exactly how it will look. www.licenseplates.tv

They are in North Carolina. You just have to have your registered antique plate with you somewhere if you're asked for it. the requirement is that they be metal and embossed with the year of the manufacture of the car and your antique plates are registered each year.
For clarification: In NC, you don't register those plates, you just put them on and carry your regular plates in the car to show if asked. The YOM plates must meet the requirements I listed above, and you still have to renew your regular antique plates every year.

If you want a custom plate, the CA DMV will make and issue the plate sequence in the new version of the Black & Yellow format, if it is not already taken and is not on the reject list (and no, they will not make a custom traditional letter/number sequence plate).

I have had black plates (live in San Diego) for my Chevelle and Corvette and I have been disappointed in the resilience in both cases from 2 different supplies. I'm not exactly sure how they do it however if they powder-coated the base that would be far superior to what feels like a rattle can approach. The front plate chips and stains so easily, so disappointed.
