Why the crazy prices for C-2 steel wheels ?
Can't believe what some are asking. Passenger vs corvette rims different even though they are 15 x 5 ? Oh the insanity of original parts !

Corvette only, limited supply, and most were tossed in the garbage can.
supply and demand
I thought I was nuts paying $500 for five, turns out they were a great investment.

Once again, supply and demand. The 63 steel wheel goes even higher to find a set of five in just good condition, remember the 63 steel wheel, like most of the parts on the 63, was a one year wheel, the design changed in 64. SUPPLY AND DEMAND.

Are you looking for 5" or 5.5"? Do you need original wheels or just original size and features? (repro)

And the original ones that ARE still for sale may well be out-of-round due to wrecks, curb bumps or other abuse and there are only a few places left in the country that will still "true" a steel wheel.

Years ago when I restored my 63 I really lucked out. Found a set 5 of them, through a friend of a person in Michigan who took them off the 63 back in 64 when he got the knock offs, and stored them in a loft in his garage. I bought the set for $500., which I the time I was hesitant, but did, and boy am I glad I did. I just recently saw a post for a 63 wheel for $500./wheel.....out of this world expensive.
No intent of hijacking post, but another 63 item that has got very rare are the fiber glass headlight assembly and buckets. RARE...

65-66 steel wheels
These are now available as reproductions from Corvette Spec. of MD West.
Haven't seen one in person, but his repro's of other items are good stuff. Look bang-on in the pictures, including the nubs by the stem hole.

What are people paying for used OEM? Think I can trade my OEM steel wheels for a set of Repo knock offs?

last I saw NCRS was just a group of like minded people who formed a club to facilitate the exchange of information and social interaction. The club members have spent 40 years documenting how classic corvettes were assembled when new and, producing reference guides and how to documents containing this information. The club sponsors meets so that enthusiasts can bring their cars out to be judged for how closely they match the production standard. The club did not make the cars become expensive to own and restore and nor does it say how much parts vendors should charge for the parts they sell. Supply and demand of these cars, and the parts that go into them dictate the prices people are willing to pay. Did Bloomington make corvettes expensive to restore? No one makes anyone participate in these clubs or organizations. People do it because they want to. Things become expensive when the supply of them is limited and many people want them. It is not rocket science.

I only wish I had kept half the C2 Corvette crap that I had years ago, I'd be rich right now. You know what they say about a fool and his money. But if you have too much of it then someone has to take it.

No, I don't need any. I have 5 for each 63. I just never knew they were so high priced and different from passenger cars. The 66 also has steel wheels and to me... they all look the same

The cost of the 63-64 wheels is a direct impact of NCRS no longer giving full point for Knock off wheels on any 63, so all the 63's out there need those wheels and they where the first to get trashed back in the day for knock offs or some other mag wheel. Very hard to find good ones. Even the steel wheels GM sold for that car are wrong.

Wow
I bought a steel wheel from a Corvette Forum member I think I paided 75 bucks for it (I thought that was a lot!!). He had sand blasted and painted it. It is a 1964 steel rim, but I didn't care its more for looks than anything. I never realized how hard they are to find.
