Safety Car
The 1934 Chrysler Airflow. Chrysler's first attempt at aerodynamics.
Actually it wasn't a bad car. The public wasn't ready for it yet.
It would do 100mph.

Safety Car
The kind of car that only the Communist East Germans can make. Two cycle, two cylinder. A real POS.
Proof positive that beauty is only skin deep, but ugly goes clear to the bone.

There was actually a CitiCar dealer right around the corner from me in the mid-70s. He had a couple of cars inside the "showroom" (just a regular storefront in a small strip mall) and one demonstrator parked out front. Basically a golf cart with doors and a roof, it was OK for short commutes but that's about it. Took a short ride in one, it was OK but kind of scary - especially when a big 18-wheeler was next to you. I don't know if I would exactly call it "ugly" . . . oh, OK, I would.

I learned to drive a stick shift in an old green Ford pick up, called the 'Green Bomb'. It was my grandfather's and we went to visit them in Montana, he would take us fishing all the time. My brother and I would be riding along, not even able to see over the dash, and when he yelled 'SHIFT', one of us would grab the tall shifter coming up out of the floor and just start moving it around, pushing and pulling. We had no idea what we were doing, we were just pushing and pulling, gears grinding, and then when we got it to go somewhere he would give it gas and pop the clutch and we would hop and lurch down the road, my grandpa just laughing..... As soon as we could reach the pedals, we were driving the dirt roads as soon as we were off the highway. We got better at shifting.... I think I was about 10..... Good times, really, really good times......
