Transmission Tunnel Clearance
Just did the body drop on the 64 convertible and have noticed the 1-2 shift lever in the tunnel is either touching the tunnel and insulator or so close it will in operation. No difference in side to side clearance with body/frame. What else should I check?

I had to scoot the body with the bolts loose in the captured nuts on the frame to get the alignment I needed on my 63. can you move it ever so slightly towards the DS?

I assume you know the driveline is not perfectly straight along the center axis. I know you prob already are aware but thought I’d mention it.

Does it hit in both 1st and 2nd? if not, it’s just shifter adjustment. If it’s both, make sure you have the shift arms correctly installed (1-2 lever on 3-4, for example). You should have plenty of room.

Of course I'm going to say it's correct, but doing a body off and it hasn't been driven, so.... It seems to shift. There is only one way (that I know of) to assemble the shifter. 1-2 sticks out to the left, 3-4 in the center, slightly left, and R on the right almost centered - all looking from the rear. I think this is actually a 65 shifter and rods in a 64, should not be a big deal, but I have the 64 rods and shifter soon from the chrome shop. The shifter appears to be almost identical - allowing for the missing alignment slot on the 64. Never got the argument settled about whether the 1-2 clevis goes to the front lever or the rear hand lever though. Best I can tell, the clevis was on the hand lever in 64 and front trans lever in 65. Don't recall which way I installed it, but these cars and these parts are so similar don't see that being a difference.
