Original Interiors
I was reading a current thread on this forum from a fellow who apparently opened up "pandora's box" when he decided to replace the original carpet in is 63 Corvette - lots of work and time and $$ to complete.
Got me realizing that original interiors in excellent shape are probably getting harder to find ... and more and more appreciating the fact that my 66 Coupe retains it complete original interior - including headliner, seat belts, seats and seat backs, carpets, dashpad, glovebox door, door panels, interior paint - teak wheel.. the works. All in nice condition - no cracks, tears etc... but yes .. far from new from factory - does have age showing in the form of teak finish wear marks, carpet fade and some of the console paint worn thin. I've contemplated changing carpets and more ... but think I'll just accept the fact that it is 52 years old and shows patina. I'll take hits for condition in judging - but maybe get some "sympathy points" for originality !!

See how everything fits and looks right in place. Try that with reproduction

I thought about replacing seat covers as they have a couple of small tear in out of sight places.
Then I thought everything else is original so I might as well leave it alone as it looks pretty good for 54 years old.

Man - that looks great - I really love the color combo. I wouldn't touch it except to maintain it. Really has held up well.
My '60 has everything original in the interior except for the seats. These were redone in the mid-60s so says my Dad. They still look pretty decent. The dash pad is pretty rough - it's really stiff with pretty much no foam left under it. But, I really don't want to get into changing it, since that can open up that invariable Pandora's box.

Just an original interior doesn't often mean much. But a GOOD condition original is a different thing.
My 65 that I bought in Feb. 2018 is an original interior car except for carpet change. I wish I would have gotten it before it was replaced as I likely would have re-dyed it in place. My car came from upstate NY and was never winter driven and always garaged which makes all the difference in the world. A like condition car kept the same way in AZ. would not fare nearly as well due to our heat and dry climate.
My driver's seat has a split in the side bolster that you really have to look for to see. Other than that the covers fit tight over the foam and look like new.
To me, the sign that the seats need to be done is when you start to see foam "crumbs" under the seats indicating the foam cushions are beginning to dry up and have out lived their life.

I have to AGREE. Studied your interior pictures and you have a great looking interior. I think if you started replacing items you would probably be sorry considering what you currently have. You can replace BUT you can’t go back. I would look for something else on the car that truly needed replacement. If nothing found just enjoy your car.

Those carpets don't look bad at all in the photos. Something to consider to maintain a uniform seat condition is rotating the seats. The original owner of my 66 kept records of every single thing done to the car since he bought it and at first I was baffled at the entry "rotated seats". He did it twice in 40 years and the seats are essentially unblemished. It's an easy swap.

Very nice. Green is rare also which is more reason to leave it alone. I have a '67 original green interior that is decent but a rip in the driver seat. My carpets are more faded but I'm leaving it alone. Looking for a take-off seat cover if anybody has seen one.

I was also looking for seat covers for my '67, it has original leather seats [I assume they are original] in very good condition. So, I looked around and I can't find any covers, like neoprene covers. I don't think they make them for mid years.

Green interior in a '66 is probably rare. To the OP, I would leave the interior just the way it is.

Any minute now, we'll hear from those that just couldn't bear to stand the sight of an original paint car with all it's imperfections and patina and they'd have to repaint with a $15-$25 paint job so they wouldn't be embarrassed. Same to these few about interiors.
My maroon '65 coupe came with white interior. I really, really disliked it. So I bought another wrecked car with black interior and swapped out the black with my white. I was smart enough to carefully save all my white stuff but it it's been back in the car for many years now. Still don't like it but it's still the original stuff and that I like..

Another vote to not touch that original interior. Why erase the car's history? It looks fantastic as it is. I would be proud to ride around in that interior....

Pictures from 1990. No Head rest but otherwise equipped as yours. KOs and SE were added after the car was built. I also had sold the teak and tele off of the car.

Love to see these original interior, time capsules. Wish I showed the same restraint with my 65 I have owned since 71. I did the interior over in the 80's. It really wasn't that bad but I wanted it like new. That was a mistake. Keep it just the way it is. It looks great.
