My 64 300 hp 4 speed coupe. It still has the redlines in this picture. One redline developed a "bulge" shortly after I got the car. I got a replacement tire from Coker (under warranty) and then replaced the redlines with some Michelins. This car was bought to drive.
I also removed the clunky and improperly adjusted original 1964 4 speed shifter, and replaced it with a correct Hurst Competition Plus. Big Improvement.
The rear end had to be rebuilt, as it was not properly set up / built the first time around. I got a set of 3.55 gears from Tom's Differentials and had a local shop do the install. Another big improvement.
One additional note about this rear end issue... the shop that built the rear end for the restoration shop in Denver that built the car has continually promised the owner of the restoration shop in Denver that they would reimburse me for the cost of the rebuild. They have been contacted 6 separate times by the Denver shop, and each time promised to get with me and get the issue resolved. So far ... NADA! I have given up on them, as I don't expect them to stand behind their work. I am not going to bother naming the company, but they have lots of negative comments against them already on the forum as far back as 2005.
The local rear end guy said that he could not find any markings on the new gears in the existing rear end. He had no idea who made the gears, or where.
I did also replace the steel valve covers (correct for a 300 hp engine) with a restored set of 7 fin no seam Corvette aluminum script covers.
I also realize (now) that I need to get some better pictures of my car. I might see about getting my car pictured with the A-12 (SR-71) that is in front of the Space and Rocket Center here in Huntsville.
Car now has 1400 miles on it since the restoration was completed in 2015. I got the car with 850 miles on it.
I am tinkering a little bit here and there. I am making arrangements to get Vintage Air installed in the car. I got an A/C dash at Carlisle last fall, and plan to use it with the center vent. I have moved the alternator to the left side of the engine compartment, replaced the passenger side exhaust manifold with a correct one for an A/C car (also got the manifold at Carlisle).
Next up is a relocation of the battery to the driver's side, and then to the local restoration shop for the A/C installation.
I am also working on a long term project to install an Electronic Fuel Injection system made out of 63-65 Rochester Fuel Injection parts. I recently acquired the plenum, lid, adapter plate (manifold) for a 1963 system. Those are the parts that are absolutely needed.
