Coupe and hard tops are assembled differently.

Correct they are obviously assemble differently but the materials are identical in what they are made of. I just refinished a 65 Hard top putting back in the original headliner and refinishing all of the trim. And that headliner was not glued in at all.

There is a 65 hardtop survivor car blue with a blue and white interior.

Interesting as the 63 coupe and 64 hardtop appear to be the same, but when I tried to remove the 64 hardtop, which I thought would be mounted to a “shell”, it would not release from the top. I think it is bonded to the inside of the top. Did not want to damage it. Material appears to be about 3/16 thick. Will be a while before I get to the 63. My 65 ht has pealed the vinyl away and left the sponge/foam. It will be next for the repo lining.

When you get to the 63 the Cp headliner is unique to 63 only because of its shape. If the 65 has vinyl and foam on it, someone has changed it over the years vinyl didn’t come out until 66. I wish someone would’ve reproduce the correct 63 to 65 headliner material. So far no one does. I am using up all the originals that I have for my own cars.

ZIP shows their 63/64 hard top headliners as cloth and the 65 is a one year only cloth.

Anybody happen know the correct SEM code for the white trim in the '66 blue/white interior (RPO 450) hardtop? They have 15103, 15313, 15603 in standard whites. I can always send in a sample to color match, but just wondered if anyone knew if a standard color would do.

Also, the blue/white interior has kick panels that are blue plastic and carpet, I believe, so there seems to be some blue trim in the car. I will get that color matched as well unless someone has beat me to it and can post the formulas.

Cheers,

Richard

I can’t help you with the white paint formula I used k

The paint sold by corvette America it matched perfect. Blue with white interior kit panel should be blue carpet on a cardboard backer with blue wind lace and a blue metal retainer, and black plastic vent cover.

@ 65 Pro Vette: THANK YOU very much for your post. I have not taken possession of the car yet, so very much appreciate your input for getting the correct supplies in before delivery.

Cheers!

Appreciate your dialog for sure. The 65 may or may not have had a vinyl cover, but the foam is present. I have not tried to remove it or the trim as yet.
I brought the 64 home from the body shop today with new paint and examined the liner again. It does appear to have a fibrous backing on a paper like lining for the interior color. It isn't 100% bonded, but it doesn't seem to want to release, so I'm not going to pull on it. It is undamaged, so the trim will go back in with new weatherstrip. You stated you removed your liner. How does it "stay up" in the center if not fastened or adhesively attached? There is some "puffiness" or looseness felt on my 64 near the center. Maybe just the backing.

Tom, this is the liner I purchased for the 65. It's not like the 63 and 64 I have, but is a "hard" thin cloth colored liner with about 1/4 of foam backing. Reminds me of the #1 foam gloves you see at football games, but thinner. It's very flimsy and will need attaching to something, I guess the inner side of the roof. Don't know what their 63/64 offering would look like. Purchased from ZIP, but drop shipped from Glassworks. It's nice, but authentic????

Thanks! Do you think the 66/67 would be more durable?

Obviously haven't seen it and don't own a 66 or 67, but vinyl would obviously be easier to clean. From the fabric/foam issues of the 80's, the foam is likely the failure method as it rotted out back then and could never be reattached.
I have a couple of extra coupe headliners with the shell and sure like the way it installs better than the hardtops I have. They're in storage, but as I recall one is vinyl and the foam failed to attach to the fiberglass shell. When I started the hardtop, I assumed a shell and had intended to insulate under the roof skin, but no joy.

Thanks. I was leaning towards a 66 style and I think that is the way I will go.

FYI, I called Corvette America and they have supposedly matched the colors already, which seems to save me time and so forth with SEM. I ordered some items and saw they had a 12% off + free shipping thing going, so saved some $$ as well.

We shall see if the colors match once I get it all in and start working.

Thanks again for the tip on this @65 Pro Vette!

Cheers,

Richard
