Default Strengthened Area Behind Rear Door Jamb

As shown in the pictures, the area behind the door jamb appears to be strengthened by someone filling in the area with a large amount of resin (maybe cloth too, but can't tell). It's like this on both sides and it has broken loose from the jamb on both sides. Was this done at the factory to strengthen that area or did someone else do it? I can see that if it isn't there and you lean on it, it is susceptible to cracking.

Thanks. I can't see why as the fiberglass around it appears to never have been damaged.

I'm going to leave it as it doesn't appear to hurt anything and it definitely makes it more resistant to cracking.

"m not sure what I am looking at but is that near where the lock latch is mounted?
may be someone cut a hole to get at the internal lock plate?

I has to reinforce the very top of my pillar because of cracking.

This is also at the top, not near the latch plate.
