And 99.99% here with a few in the C3 section. I am not a PRC forum poster.

I seldom look at my post count.
I have been a member here for 15 years but have really only been active for the last 1 1/2 years. Looks like I spend too much time here.

I don't look at the "counts" either...seems to matter to some, and some think it matters to me; it doesn't...
I also don't look at the 10 year/15 year icons.
Some of the oldest members have asked the most startling questions at times...

I try to contribute when I know something for sure.
I really appreciate the help I get here on the forum and need to announce that more often.

I've wondered if some post on the other sections of the forum just to increase their post count. It seems like a matter of pride for a few people. But, I've noticed that all items one posts, including only a smiley face, or whatever, counts, and there are many folks who post only those. I wonder, is that because they are trying to increase their post count? There is one guy who has over a quarter million posts. He must spend an unbelievable amount of time at the keyboard.

Sometimes a simple post of one emojie is like saying "dittos" or "I agree". Forum member John Q. Smith passes away and 70 people respond. Some may have memories to share, but others may just be adding their condolences by posting a blue angel. Likewise when somebody posts a new-to-them Vette acquisition, a simple "thumbs up" is giving them congratulations, without having to type out a more lengthy reply.
And yes, I'll admit to occasionally posting something just to throw gas on the fire, too!

I think the perception to some is that the higher the post count from any given member, the more valuable their information may be. Another thought to consider would be respect. Just like life, everything is relative.
I am a newb to the forum and Corvettes. I have been a member for two years, and lean heavily on members for advice. It would seem that a ten or fifteen year member with thousands of post would have some good advice to give, IMO. About to hit my 500 mark and will be receiving a third gold star. As much time as I spend in here it is a cool benchmark, and I feel like the higher my thread count the more respect I will receive and the more weight my posts will carry.

While I understand what you say about respect and post count, I have seen some helpful posts from brand newbies, and some questions from longer members who still ask something basic. Overall it's a very good bunch of people. If you can tolerate a little grumpyness and occasional wise-assery, IMHO there is no better reference anywhere than the collective knowledge here.

I have been a member over 10 years and I still lean heavily on other members for advice. And I see questions from 15-year members, so the learning never stops.

Amen to that! Sometimes I have to ask questions about stuff that I know I used to know.

Lou makes a good point though. If we're doing something fairly often, we are more apt to stay comfortable with it. When we did something a few times 40 or 50 years ago, it's easy to forget parts of it. I have torn down and rebuilt Chevy V8's before but as I prepare to work on my '64's 327, I've asked the help of an old hot-rod buddy who was done more that I and more importantly, much more recently. Oh, I know the basics all right, but I don't want to get it all back together and then realize I skipped something. And this forum is a great place to reach out to those guys who are up to date, or have done it so many times they'll NEVER forget.
