I grew up in a died-in-the-wool Ford family. After a couple of small-block Fords I came home with a '63 Corvette in 1969. My Dad took one look at the Corvette and said, "son, if you can afford a Corvette, you can afford to pay room & board."

My first new car was a 1974 Ranchero GT with the last of the 351C HO engines. A year later I found a 6 year old 'S' Code Mustang body shell for $75 and bought it. It took 4 years to gather up all the missing pieces to put together my first (and only) Mustang. Most of the parts for it were bought over the counter at our local Ford Dealer using my Dad's shop discount. I had a lot of fun with this car, but ended up putting only 6k miles on it in 15 years.

I was in a Corvette Club in Pensacola Florida in the early 80's. We were hosting a 1/8 and 1/4 mile drag race so I had to take the Mustang...

This picture was taken 35 years ago when our son was about 3 months old... today he flies F18's...

We thank him for his service and the picture is a true gem. How proud your family must be of your son.

’70 Mustang, my uncle bought it new. 30K miles, original paint.

I’ve mainly been into GM products. They all have expected characteristics / a common feel——window cranks, sound of a door shutting, gauge design, assembly procedures, styling cues…..even the way the upholstery smells.

Strange but that’s what I find neat about owning/driving the Mustang. All this stuff is different. Not in a good or bad way, just different. Glad to get it back into the family.

Judging by your screen name I figure you've already know the Mopar difference in these areas...

This is my daily driver. Does it count as a classic? They have stopped making them.

I love it! That and the sound of a dozen lost screws and nuts in the door bottom as it slams...and brakes that put your forehead to the windshield. I drive that 68 New Yorker more than the other 7, 40,000 miles since 2005!

I'd take it with the dent. Pretty. Gotta love Twin I beam. I think thet finally did away with that only a few years ago.

Great thread! The 2005 era ford GT is one of my favorite cars ever.

I stumbled on this fastback about 15 months ago and have been driving the wheels off it after doing a little mechanical refresh.

Draws more comments than my Sting Ray. More people had or knew someone who had a mustang at some point in their history I suppose.

I’ve also got my dad’s old 67 Galaxie stick shift fastback tucked away for restoration someday. Financial disaster but sentimental job.

Love the GT, always thought the 05-06 was much better looking than the current GT.
Now the Escort is really cool. anymore details on it? what's the powertrain? do you live in the UK? If you're in the U.S., what did it take to get it over here?
Thanks

I'm in the UK. It's an original Escort RS2000 so a 2.0 Pinto engine with twin downdraught Webers giving about 160 horses so quick enough being so light

My Brother has a classic car business in CA and was desperate to bring it to the US as it'd be so different

That is a very subjective question but for the purposes of this thread anything built prior to 1972.

Yes. But the Econoline kept it right up until the end which was only a few years ago.
