Default Restomods at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale 2019...Good year to be a bidder!!!!

I just looked at the preview for the upcoming Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction and counted 18 C1 Restomods and 11 C2 restomods. Obiouvsly the build quality varies from car to car, but still, supply and demand... Some are going to lose a lot of money and I might be one of them.
It will be a good year to be a bidder if you have the means!

There seems to a be 3 year cycle on these things.

Restos are sparse, and a good build gets $325K, so the next day people start building bunch of Restos on speculation (vs to keep and drive) and plan to sell at auction so you have glut. Then prices fall, and nobody builds restos for spec and good one then gets big $$ because they are sparse, repeat...

I agree that the quality of the build will be the determining factor on price. Hard to believe that with that many resto's available we're going to see the really big bucks. (4) 62's at this point.

Quality and the degree of the Resto-Mod restoration upgrades is a factor. Resto-Mod by definition is vary broad and speculative. You do not need an LS engine and 17" tires and the car/truck is still considered a Resto-Mod by definition.

Good point! After reading several descriptions, i see that many of those consigned still have a stock frame.

I’ll be there. It will be interesting to see them comparatively.

Seems when there’s just a couple/few really good ones people wait for them and overbid. With this many it can’t help sales, but I imagine, like with nice stock cars, informed buyers will know how to ID the good ones and buy accordingly.

What i call a Resto Rod. There is really nothing wrong with a stock frame, though upgrading to R&P steering with improved ball joint front suspension, and independent rear, or at least coil overs in back with 4 wheel discs, may up it to Resto Mod.

Would be very appreciative of any C1 and C2 prices you can post after the auction for those who can't attend and don't frequent the BJ website.

Looks like several folks on this forum will be there with cars....I will be there as a spectator, as usual. I will tell you that NotRedRob's blue car was superior...and they also understand the art of selling at that auction. Its always a lot of carnival fun to attend.
I wonder if this link will work for folks....nice, exotic looking car...

My thinking right now is to stay on the sidelines and not buy. We're probably going to see a stock market slow down or downturn which will effect the economy and that will be the time to find great deals.

Come by and say hello! I will have the 67 convertible restomod as well as the 289FIA aluminum Kirkham cobra at the auction. It's not an ideal situation to sell them at no reserve, but with a 3 year old and a newborn girl, it's time to let them go and see what they will bring. I might be a nervous wreck, so I will apologize in advance.

Chris.

I wish you good fortune on your cars. I am very surprised the Kirkham had not already sold. You should do well on both cars.
Drop an Email with updated photos of the little ones. Elaine and I love keeping up with them.

It seems like there are more modded cars vs. stock NCRS/Bloomington type cars listed. That said, I still think that you will do just fine as Scottsdale is a very strong venue. Best of luck on the sale!

Don't see any windshield wipers so I guess it's probably not meant to be driven much.
Beautiful car to look at though. Good luck with the sale.

i see a lot of his cars come back up for sale with hardly any miles. There is one on eBay currently with only 74 miles. Not sure why that is, but there seems to always at least be one on eBay. If the red split window in the link above doesn’t have air ride, then I doubt it’s much fun to drive. Check out the front camber.

There are a number of high end restomods that do not have windshield wipers. If you look at enough of them you wont be surprised when you see one without. Here is an example... https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-it-again.html

I’ve never built a Resto mod without wipers. If you’re going to drive the car, you need them. I do move the motors behind the firewall, to get rid of that giant eyesore of a motor.
