Default Are 66 radio ***** illuminated?

I'm replacing the aftermarket radio in my 66 with the original...[Tayman rebuilt modified original]

Here is my question, are the ***** on the original radio supposed to be illuminated like the heater *****? If so ,how? Are there bulbs INSIDE the radio? Are there supposed to be torpedo bulbs , other that the one on the driver side of the radio that light the *****?

I have already installed the radio and it's a genuine pain to pull in and out. Help will be appreciated here...Thanks Jim

There's a lamp that clips into a slot on the side of the radio that lights up the dial. Not the **** bezels though. The same light that lights the heater bezels should also make the radio bezels visible. Even at best they were barely visible.

If you have original bezels, they are "translucent" so that the light glows lightly through the letters. If you have an aftermarket type bezel, it depends on whether they are solid or have the letters that allow light through.

I have the bezels that are translucent. MY heater bezel bulbs have been modified at some point with LED bulbs and the aftermarket radio had their own LED bulbs wire tied to the radio shafts lighting the bezels.

So if I am understanding, the same bulbs that ORIGINALLY lit the heated **** bezels ALSO lit the radio bezels.....anybody have a picture?

Thanks for the picture.

I see three slots in the clock receptacle [with an arrow pointing to the center one...are there THREE fixtures or just the one pictured?

Now here is a stupid question, the picture show the torpedo fixture [with arrow] INSIDE the clock receptacle...Is THAT where it goes? Inside??

Or does it go OUTSIDE with the clip going in the slot with the arrow. Looks like there would not be room for the clock AND the torpedo fixture in the same space..confused...

Door #3!! The lamp socket "torpedo" clips below the clock opening. The clip part is inside the clock opening, kind of upside down from the picture.

The torpedo clips onto the bottom of the clock receptacle so that the bulb faces downward. The clock has its own lighting so the torpedo is intended to shine light behind the four plastic bezels. There's only one torpedo light to do the job and it doesn't do it very well. Dave

The opening in the lamp shield will end up beneath the clock housing more or less centered between the four *****.

Check out my dash. I used a LED BA9 (green). It lights up the bezels the way they should be lit. It did require cutting off the end of the torpedo fixture.

I think I could read a map at night under those. Quite a difference.
