Once you go silver and black, you never go back!
It’s kind of fitting really. My car left the factory with a black and silver interior. Today, the only thing left of the silver are the welting strips just in front of the doors trimming out the kick panels. But I can pay homage and return to a similar look.
However, the San Antonio Spurs are my team (Pop lives right down the street from me) and they are the silver and black. So, from here on in my interior color is silver and black.
I picked these silver and black seats up today.
Not much much else to report. It was a dirty day! I blew out the back half of the frame with high pressure air foolishly hoping to suck what ever frame fodder blew out with my shop vac. No such luck, grasshopper. Vermin have been here and they built nests and they procreated and they didn’t bother to clean up after themselves. Those little bastards.
Next, I filled the internal passages with an entire can of Eastwood Internal frame coating. I almost hoped one of the repugnant rodents stayed behind. He’d have been a seal in an oil spill. I also finished the other front coil over.
Tomorrow I clean and paint the back half of the frame, which means Monday I get to bolt in the rear suspension! Yee Haw! And if my living has been clean and I didn’t offend the gods with my earlier messiah comment, perhaps my wheels will show up next week. A man can dream! Oh...still need those front Wilwood brakes...damn.

You could always hold a lighter to a can of WD40 and flame them out …

I completely agree with you, GV. This is why I hate having anyone else work on my cars! My OCD kicks in and I’m rarely happy with the quality. The installer has been in business for a long time and is highly rated. I was clearly disappointed and we had a long discussion about my disappointment. Interestingly, he originally was highly complementary about the quality of the covers, but during our debate that degraded to the poor quality of the covers created the wrinkles. He offered a partial refund which I accepted with the understanding that I would not provide any review of his shop. I’ll figure out my next step once I get to the interior in a couple of months.

What a dirty, dirty day. But I felt very productive!
Wire brushing, sanding and cleaning a frame is no fun when you’re working with a bare frame. When the body is still on and the car is sitting on jack stands it’s pure misery. You just push through it and get it done. Took me three hours and I just did the third crossmember back! Then after lunch I coated the frame with Eastwood Platinum rust encapsulater.
That means tomorrow I can start installing the rear suspension!
All cleaned up.
Ready for paint.

Thanks, GV, but those seats just don’t do it for me. I like how I fit in the C5 seats (at least for now) and I’ll have a roll bar with shoulder harnesses that pass through the opening below the headrest. I’ll try what I have and if for any reason they don’t work, I’ll move to plan B. I am going to play with them a bit myself.
On a side note, the guy who covered my seats has all five star reviews. I was considering giving him additional business, but the fact that he didn’t bring up the wrinkles himself and seemed genuinely proud of his work, says that will now never happen. If he would have said something along the lines of we tried to get all the wrinkles out, but couldn’t it would at least tell me he is honest and has high standards. Very unfortunate.

Saturday, when I was on my back with a die grinder clearancing the front spring pockets for coilovers, I was wearing both safety glasses and goggles. Still some metal flakes managed to find their way into my eyes. I think I must have a funny shaped face.

What a satisfying day! Well, there was one real big pita that I’ll get to in a minute. Got a lot done.
Installed the rear end and carrier. Lined up perfectly.
I’m waiting for strut rods and pinion flanges to finish the rear.
Here is the pita, right here. Assembling the parking brake behind the spindle. Forget the dental floss trick. Slide the shoe on the pin, put the retainer on and then wind the spring into place as if you were putting a new key on your key ring. You’ll need three hands, lots of patience and a light that mounts on your forehead.
Here is the pita I’ve saved for tomorrow. Simple in concept, crazy hard in application.
The Ridetech arm cane with C3 style shims, so I drilled through the mount for the long cotter pin that hold them in place.
These Wilwood brakes are awesome!
