Default OT: Pearl Harbor Day

Remember PEARL HARBOR December 7, 1941. A day that changed the world and everyone’s lives forever. A salute to them and to all our military personnel past and present.

I heard the last surviving member of the armed forces who was there that day passed last week.

I salute him, his fellow comrades who were there that day, and all of the brave men and women who put their lives on the line to protect us to this day.

I spent five years stationed on a destroyer at bravo piers in Pearl. Every ship that passes the USS Arizona (a still commissioned ship in the US navy) salutes the bravery of those lost that day. May they Rest In Peace.

I was there for the first time on Tuesday 12/4. An awe inspiring sight. You can feel the power from the ground and water. It puts a lump in your throat, and make you grit your teeth, all at the same time.
Brave men all.

I know Jim Leavelle was on the USS Whitney during the attack and he is still alive. He is the detective with Oswald when Ruby shot him. What are the odds of being at two of the biggest events in the 1900’s? My friend is the park historian for the Arizona. I’ll see if he knows how many are still with us.

Thanks to all the veterans past, present and future.

For sure. There is nothing like the experience of being there and standing over the Arizona. It's a moment frozen in time that you will never forget or get the same feeling any other time in your life.
God bless America and those brave men and woman who made the ultimate sacrifice as well as those brave men and woman who served from that day forward. There is a lot as Americans we can disagree on but one thing we shouldn't is people who serve in our military. Thanks to all of you.

The news reports that there are five USS ARIZONA survivors still alive, although for the first time, none were able to attend this year's memorial service.

Thanks for that correction. Apparently my information about only 1 who is still alive was bogus.

Visiting the Arizona is necessary to understand the value of the Surrender signed on the Missouri, and the continued need for vigilance.
