Default Ignition resister

How hot does an ignition resister get? Too hot to touch?

It's not too hot to touch, but if you do you'll be sorry. And you won't do it again. In other words, you can touch it, but it will burn you.

That big white "brick" is actually ceramic to dissipate the heat of the small resistor wire inside of it....
Yes, it gets hot - and the ignition coil gets hot too...

It's pretty close to a 25 watt bulb. Like a previous poster said, you can touch it, but you'll probably conclude that once is enough.

There's a reason it's housed within a ceramic block - to keep from melting other stuff, so yes, it gets hot.

Too hot to touch? That depends. Do you feel comfortable touching other hot parts? Like exhaust manifolds? Why would you want to?

I'm asking if it's too hot to touch because touch is a way to determine how hot is hot. With my hand nearby noticed heat coming from resister.. But how much heat is normal, or do I have an electrical issue.

Most adults will suffer third-degree burns if exposed to 150 degree water for two seconds. Burns will also occur with a six-second exposure to 140 degree water or with a thirty second exposure to 130 degree water. Even if the temperature is 120 degrees, a five minute exposure could result in third-degree burns.-

I'll simplify, it gets so hot it will burn your skin. Normally.

I understand. I was simply responding to the question of why would I want to touch it

Hey Guys, I guess my temperature question was not properly stated.

While working on a running engine I noticed heat coming from the resister. Did not touch it, did not want to because it's hot. Just wanted to know if this was normal or was I having an electrical issue. But how do you ask that without indicating how hot am I talking about?. "Hot" can be many temps. Soup is hot, as is coffee, but edible. Exhaust manifolds are hot, much more so than soup or coffee, but both coffee and manifolds can be classified as hot. So I used touch as a tactile reference to quantify "Hot". It's exact temp is not important. Your responses indicating too hot to touch is all I need too know.

Thanks again to all
