Volkswagon has been using them since the late 40's.

The ceramic fuses were for European cars and readily available in my partsman days. "GBC" suffix.

Couple fuse comments. The ceramic fuses have the link exposed so if you pull it by hand when there is power going through it, it will be hot. If it blows when you are installing it by hand, it will burn the sh.. out of your finger.
The glass fuses used in our old cars are fast blow, if its rated at 10A it will blow as soon as you reach 10A. The new spade fuses designed for new cars , I believe, are a slow blow fuse, that will carry that 10 amps for a long period before blowing and will carry a surge over the stated amperage. All manufacturers of fuses will have a chart on the function of a particular fuse. If you are changing to a different type of fuse, make sure you are comparing apples to apples before doing the switch.

American Autowire makes a kit (Classic Update Series) that uses a modern fuse block. I used it and had never installed a complete wiring set before...it was relatively easy... I edited this...I meant, did you already have the complete new wiring harness?
