Default 1966 SB - Trying to Locate a 2 1/2" High Air Filter Element -

I thought this issue was behind me, but it has again come about. (I posted about this a while ago)

I'm trying to locate an air filter element for my '66. I jumped through hoops finally getting one that will fit. By fit, I mean not hit the hood. Not too much to ask, right?

I put in a Purolator A60074 that measured 2 1/2" high. The Fram equivalent was too high at 3". So, with part # in hand, I order another A60074 only to find that it is 3" high. I've tried several Google sites with cross reference charts and can't come up with one.

Has someone here dealt with this and found an answer? Thank you.

Are you needing one exactly 2 1/2" tall, or are you looking for one that doesn't exceed 2 1/2"? I bought a Wix 42070 that measures exactly 2" tall, and 12.75" wide.

Not sure if this helps!

Thank you. I need one that doesn't exceed 2 1/2". ^ ^ ^

I just checked that WIX # and according to Amazon, the height is 3". I'm not saying yours isn't as you say. This just adds to the weirdness of this. You have a filter that measures 2" but the specs for the filter indicate 3". Nothing about this is more queer than having an air filter in a car that fits, and with part# in my hand, the air filter with the same part# is not the same.

You might try a dimension search at the K&N site, and then find a cross reference.

Part Number:42070
UPC Number:765809420700
Style:Air Filter
Service:Air
Type:Media:Cellulose
Height:2.12(54)*
Outer Diameter:12.802(325)*
Inside Diameter:11.035(280)*
Ends:Plastic
CFM:120

I agree that it is weird as well. I don't trust Amazon for actual specifications. This is the specs from the Wix website that I copied and pasted for you. I also measured mine, and it is what it says it is. The best part is that I found this filter at my local AutoZone, O'Reilly's, and NAPA.

Thanks, Valp. I agree about the Amazon specs being iffy. I have Autozone and NAPA fairly close by. I'll look into that WIX.

Try Summit or Jegs?

If you still haven't found the size filter you're looking for K&N will allow you to "build your own custom filter".

I brought the filter with me to the auto parts store and compared it to what was on their shelves, and ended up with Purolator A-60102 ... in case anyone is interested. Thank you all.
